Poor Quality Hardware, Do Not Buy!

Although I love how fast and responsive the computer is (thank you SSD), it is unfortunately very cheaply made and with poor quality control. I order this 17in. I am a freelance professional working from home, so the 17in is always on a desk and never moved. However, after only two months I noticed that the screen frame began to separate near the hinge each time I would close the large 17in screen. The hardware simply isn't strong enough to support its own screen size and weight. Each day that I open and close it, I have to hold that bottom corner of the screen together in order to open and close the laptop without the screen breaking in half. This is completely unacceptable for a laptop that was advertised as a gaming computer and cost close to $1500. If the screen doesn't hold up to a business professional opening and closing it 2-4 times a day, it certainly would not stand a hardcore gamer who is hard on their computer. Acer, you really let me down this time! I do not recommend this product because of the poor quality hardware.

This thing is fast. As I bought this a couple of weeks ago and as of 23JAN15 it was out of stock. It comes with windows 8, a good amount of SSD, and a tetra of hard drive. I loaded EVERYTHING on the SSD and still have room. You basically have a lot of space for media. It starts up in less than 5 seconds. That's with full adobe, office, etc. I do use this to load military stuff and it is giving me a hard time with a cac reader but that is probably the internet explorer. I suspect it is out of stock to make way for one with a touch screen, Windows 10, some silly change to the processor, graphic card, etc. I don't really worry about windows 10 because I am not going to play the "jump" when they say upgrade game anymore. I shopped around and this had the best reviews, for the most stuff, at a below average price. I bought a surface pro 3 last month but don't like the touch screen option and the way the screen sits on your lap when you try to type something on the couch. Wife likes it so whatever.

Very robust laptop for the price. Screen resolution is excellent. Professional photo editing and gaming performance very good. Blue Ray playback crisp. DVD software needs to be upgraded (for free) to play Blue Ray disks. This laptop will NOT fit in any 17.3" certified laptop backpacks. Look for an 18"+ backpack for proper fit. Current Intel BIOS firmware doesn't support overclocking. Wish the keyboard backlight color could be customized to other colors. Overall a great product. Highly recommended.

First of all I've been doing research for my next laptop for over 2 months.
I was going between Asus 550JK and MSI Apache Pro.
Then this one came out.

This laptop has everything that i wanted, and even more, at a really fair price.
Im a long time Dota/Battlefield gamer and a photography student. So a powerful mobility, sleek design laptop was needed.
Had it for over a month now, and no issues at all.

- Ips screen for my photography needs. Not a cheap panel, tho.
- SSD was needed for lightroom catalog.
- i7 4th generation is a must.
- GTX 860m is capable of moving my games in 1080 high (BF4, Dota).

My first impression is that this laptop is so thin and light, you almost can't believe there's so much power under that little case. The black matte finish lets you take it to any work meeting and don't feel stared at.

The best first impression was at the startup. It loaded in 7 sec (Yeah, blazing fast).
Loaded BF4 in 12 seconds. The map changes are fast. I'm always the first one that loads.
The SSD really makes the difference.

The matte finish is good for those of us using the laptop in classrooms and high lights enviroment. I do use it a lot outdoors on the park.
One thing that impressed me too, was the sound. The speakers are very loud and clear. A little lack of bass, but very loud for laptop speakers.
BluRay drive was a plus, even if i dont use it as muchs as i tought.

The keyboard is flawless and smooth. Keys are responsive and the backlit is perfect for overnight gaming.
The price/performance of this laptop is the best i've seen so far.
There are cheaper options out there, but none with this exact specs and nice looks.

Great Laptop

I've had the computer for over a month and find that it fits my needs perfectly. I'm probably not going to say anything new, but I really like this computer. I was attracted to this model because of it's 128 GD SSD, and the decent price for what you get. The computer is super fast and has a sleek design. The 17in screen makes playing games and watching movies a lot more fun, plus I can work on spreadsheets and such with greater easy. It came with too much bloatware-- I'm still getting rid of unnecessary apps and programs. Two complaints I have are with 1) where Acer placed the DVD drive. When I pick up my computer I often press the drive open, which can be irritating. 2) the track pad is a bit flimsy. Another reviewer saw the pad as cheap. After only a month of use the pad already is showing some signs of wear. I'm going to need to buy an actual mouse so I don't render the track pad useless. Those are my only two qualms with the machine. Otherwise I'm quite happy with my laptop. Amazon was able to send it in a timely manner and UPS delivered it the day they said they would.
