I did have to order a mounting bracket and cable from Acer to attach my hdd (part # 42.GP4N2.SV1) that you can order from the Acer website for $8 usd. Other reviews have mentioned you can call them and see if they'll send you one for free. I opted to forgo the hassle and pay the 8 bucks.
Pros: A lot of power packed into a $600 laptop. If you're not a hardcore gamer but still like to play games this might work for you. It exceeded my expectations.
Cons: (These are nit picky and subjective)
1. No cd drive but who uses those anymore anyway. If you do need one you can always plug a cheap usb one into it.
2. If you want to add a 2.5 hdd for storage you need to order the cable and bracket along with being comfortable opening up a brand new laptop. The Acer website has a guide with pictures on how to do it, though.
3. Plastic lid and aluminum palm rest show prints fairly easily. If you have ocd like me that might bother you but pretty minor.
Over all very pleased with this purchase. You'd be hard pressed to find a laptop with 256g ssd, discrete graphics, i5 8250u processor and ddr4 memory for the money. (At the time of this review) Will update this in the future should my opinion change.
The TN panel display quality is okay but it's easily the weak link in the package. The viewing angles are pretty bad, even directly in front. Colors are washed out and blacks are rendered pretty poorly. Brighter scenes aren't too bad but darker scenes can look pretty awful at times as shown in the photo I included. Thankfully, it's only certain shaded screens that look that bad. For the most part, the display is okay. Obviously, there had to be a compromise somewhere to stay at this price point and I feel the display drew the short straw. The screen is fine for gaming and desktop use but if you plan to perform photo editing, graphic design or simply want a more richly saturated crisp display, an exterior monitor is the way to go. I have this hooked up via HDMI to a 27" ViewSonic LED monitor that's also 1080p.
As far as gaming, I have no complaints so far. This laptop easily plays Overwatch on medium settings at the native 1080p resolution at 60fps with very few drops in framerate. It also runs reasonably well on the high setting. I tried epic and ultra and they both run fine in training mode but aren't as stable in actual gaming. I found that medium is the best bet to avoid any potential issues. This will handle most games at medium or lower settings and is great for casual gamers or heavy STEAM users as long as the graphics aren't insanely demanding.
Battery life is disappointing so far. It's rated at seven hours but I get about three hours of moderate use from a full charge. I haven't tried gaming on battery yet but I can only assume it would significantly shorten battery life even more if I'm only getting three hours from desktop use and the integrated graphics chip rather than the Nvidia GPU. However, I'm not too worried. I've learned that many batteries need an adjustment period. I had a similar problem with my Note 8 phone. In the beginning, I barely got a day's use out of the battery. Now, I can go two to three days on a single charge. I also did not remove all of the Acer bloatware. I uninstalled the majority of bloatware which included an MS Office trial, a 30-day Norton Security trial and several Win 10 apps. I left the Acer Care Center and Quick Access programs installed because they actually offer useful features such as automatically checking for manufacturer updates and quick access to many features and settings. However, if battery life doesn't eventually improve, I may uninstall those as well to see if it helps.
As usual, the Win 10 setup was annoying. I disabled Cortana immediately, paid particular attention to the privacy questions and was greeted by a super long Windows update during setup. The 3GB update took over two hours to complete. Nearly all of the time was spent on the installation because the 3GB download completed quickly over a gigabit connection. At least the installation is optional during the initial setup and can be postponed.
So, do I recommend this laptop? Yes, if it's priced closer to $500 than $600. If it's closer to $600, it might be worth dropping an extra hundred to step up to a machine like the Newest Acer Nitro Flagship High Performance 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop PC | Intel Core i5-7300HQ Quad-Core | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 | 8GB RAM | 1TB HDD | Windows 10 | Windows Mixed Reality Ultra Ready or the MSI GL62M 7RD-1407 15.6" Full HD Thin and Light Performance Gaming Laptop i5-7300HQ GTX 1050 2G 8GB 256GB SSD Win10 SteelSeries Keyboard . Both these machines have comparable features along with the more capable GeForce GTX 1050 GPU. The Acer even throws in a better quality IPS display. Both sell for just under $700. As long as this laptop is priced closer to $500, it's a decent deal.
For what it's worth it also looks very nice, especially the textured exterior plastic. The screen doesn't feel especially robust when opening and closing so if you need something on the more rugged side this might not be a great choice. During use it feels great though. The excellent keyboard and metal lining make it feel more expensive than it is. I've ordered the hard drive mount kit from Acer and will update my review after it's arrived and I've installed a second hard disk drive.
**update** Almost 2 years of ownership and battery life hasn't degraded significantly. I did add a second hard drive which involved a lot of small screws but was quite simple and easy. I've been happy with my purchase.

Aunque no lo he contabilizado...
