And with its high-dynamic-range imaging (HDR) web cam which provides clearer photos and supports better Google Hangouts experience in HD, you can feel closer to family and friends with crystal clear high resolution video chats, presenting you at your best, too.
Experience your entertainment in all of its glory. Two full-sized upward facing speakers bring movies to life, give songs more depth and make games more engaging and immersive.
The Right Speed
In addition to having the largest screen of any Chromebook, the Acer Chromebook 15 is incredibly fast. Powered by the latest Intel processor based on Broadwell micro-architecture, the Acer Chromebook 15 blows away anything you’ve seen before. Thanks to that, and the solid-state drive, the Acer Chromebook 15 fully boots up in 7 seconds and smoothly powers through tough tasks and provides quick access to stored files, movies, songs and photos.
The Acer Chromebook 15 brings speed to another level. The Right Feel
The Acer Chromebook 15 is big enough and fast enough for all-day use, so it’s also been designed to withstand heavy daily use and feel great all day. The durable fabric-like surface provides a premium feel that also maximizes grip, while the anti-glare Acer ComfyView display doesn’t strain the eyes, even after long hours of use. It’s a Chromebook that looks and feels great on your desk, on your lap, or on the go.
The Chromebook 15 is one of the slimmest Chromebooks on the market. It’s ultra-thin Full HD 15.6-inch frame makes it easy to slip into a purse, backpack or brief case and take along with you. The touchpad — the largest of any Chromebook — provides plenty of room to scroll and gesture freely and effortlessly.

Overall I am impressed enough with this Chromebook that I honestly probably will never buy another laptop again, especially at these price points. The only limitation you are going to have with a Chromebook is if you need to run normal software programs since it will not do that. However, if you simply need something for light office duty (writing, spreadsheets, etc.), this will suit you fine. You can use Google Docs or another third party application for basic functions. I will say that I have found that Google Docs is absurdly slow, but this seems to be a common complaint if you do the research and it's why I opted to download the Word app (which runs fine and handles my large multiple hundred page documents with ease). Included SD and USB ports ensure that you should never have a storage issue since you can store on the included 16gb, on the cloud (Google Drive), or on removal storage devices. If you are looking at this particular product, do pay attention to the size as it is rather large since it is a 15.6" system. It is also relatively heavy, but it's still lighter than my old laptop. In my case, I wanted the larger screen due to my eyesight and I always carry around a backpack, so the size was a non-issue for me. I know it is for some people and if you are one of them, you should probably look at one of the 11 or 12 inch models.
If you are looking for a basic affordable pseudo laptop, I don't think you will be disappointed with this product.
The touchpad is one of the best that I have used. Sometimes the chromebook seems to have issues with a three finger touch, but this may be the palm rejection working on the device. When I say issues, I mean that if you try to tap with three fingers too lightly, it may not register as a three finger tap. The keyboard is one of the most enjoyable keyboards that I have used. All of the keys are crisp when pushed down, and have very little movement when they are depressed. It seems as though little specs of dust and whatnot may get under the keyboard through time, but it should be easy to replace if anything goes wrong. My only complaint about the keyboard is that if you press the spacebar too far down and too far either to the right or the left, the resistance of the spacebar against the walls that surround it may be too much to prevent an electrical activation even though the spacebar clicks.
The speakers are generally plenty loud and do give decent stereo effect, but don't expect these to be a bass cannon. They are roughly the same speakers that are in the acer c720, but they are now oriented upwards.
The camera is roughly mediocre. It will be fine for video chatting, but it is not a dslr.
The battery life is something that seems to be either a good or an average. Depending on the brightness and how conservative you are with opening demanding tabs, you can easily push the chromebook to somewhere in the range of 9 to 10 hours of battery life. When you start doing things that are more intensive on the chromebook like netflix watching and youtube watching, the number quickly drops to the range of five to six hours with a medium brightness. Without doing a full rundown on the chromebook, I would think that it will get somewhere in the range of 4 to 5 hours with maximum brightness.
The build quality of the chromebook seems like it is a high quality even though the body of the chromebook creaks when it is moved around. There doesn't appear to be any flex in the body of the chromebook, and the comparatively higher weight to other chormebooks makes this one feel more durable. So far I have noticed no scratches in mine and believe that it will remain this way because the texture on the surface of the chromebook prevents scratches from things like sand when placed on a flat service.
The performance of the chromebook is very good, and it is a near must to get the 4gb of ram. There is next to no reloading of pages even when there are more than thirty pages open at a time. On this note, even though this is running on the new broadwell chips, don't expect any kind of cpu or gpu graphical powerhouse as of yet. When running crouton on this chromebook with trusty xfce (14.04) I was only able to achieve roughly 20 to 30 fps in games like tf2 with severe input lag. Other games were worse. The only game that I found to truly run well would be costume quest. Take this with a grain of salt because the drivers are not properly optimized yet, and this is being dual booted ontop of chrome, meaning that all graphics and sound still has to feed through the chromeos running. This greatly slows everything down. If you want to run linux on this chromebook, the 4gb of ram is a necessity. Keep in mind that the 16/32gb ssd is going to be very limiting, especially if you want to download large applications, so you may want to get a quick sd card. You can also upgrade the ssd with a standard m.2 sata drive, and there are on warranty stickers that you will void adding this m.2 into the chromebook.
Other than that, everything else has been a joy. I wish there were more offline applications in chromeos, but that will come with time. If you want to get this as a game device (aside from small indie games on linux) you are going to be disappointed. Final notes: it is a good chromebook for the person that knows that this is the size that they want. There are small quirks to the device and performance may be overstated compared to the advertised specifications when running linux.
