Now let's get to the bad... My PC came with Win10 on it. I chose that option so to avoid any driver issues or other issues upgrading from Win8. No such luck. It seemed the Win10 install on it was not tested. When I got it, WiFi would work great for a few minutes, then turn off entirely with Windows saying that the Wireless Network service was not running on this machine. Well it was, what happened to it? Turn everything back on, WiFi works great and is very fast... a few minutes later, it turns off and the same error comes up. Ugh! Solution, ethernet cable. The next major issue was with the video out, the monitor would turn off, and on, and off, and on... this made using it a bit difficult, approaching impossible at first. When looking online, I saw other people having the exact same issues with the WiFI and Display. Windows Update didn't fix them, going to Device Manager and updating drivers didn't help either. The fix was Acer, going to Acer's site and downloading ALL of their Win10 drivers for the RevoOne and manually installing them. I was disappointed I had to do that on a brand new machine, that could not drive a display or connect via wifi as delivered. Poor poor poor! These issues aren't hardware, they're all software issues. Now that Win10 has had a few big upgrades, and I've installed the Acer drivers manually, the PC is operating reliably and very well. I had hoped to avoid all that with a new Win10 machine, but that was not to be.
Conclusion: The PC is great and I'm glad I have it. The OS image installed was poor, hopefully newer customers will have a better pre-install on theirs, this was pretty unacceptable to me. Now that those issues are corrected however, it is a great little machine.
I called Acer about 10 days after getting the Revo and worked with their technicians who rolled out a laundry list of solutions for me to try. First, we tweaked a number of settings. Then, reinstalled the operating system without deleting my files. Then, deleted all my files and programs and restored the computer to factory settings and started all over with tweaking settings. After all this, the computer was still glitching and I wanted to return it. But by this time, I had spent a couple weeks trying Acer's proposed solutions and Acer informed me that I had missed a 30-day deadline to return the Revo. Had the technicians warned me about this instead of stringing me along though days of attempting one supposed fix after another, I would have shipped the Revo right back instead of wasting my time. However, the technicians promised me that Acer would either fix or replace the Revo. I shipped it in to their repair center, waited ten days, and got the Revo back, along with a little note saying that Acer had reinstalled the operating system. This was irritating, as I had already replaced the operating system at least twice with the help of Acer's technicians and it hadn't fixed anything. I tested it out, and it seemed to work for a couple days but then it went right back to freezing and glitching. I spoke with the repair people and with an Acer customer care person and clearly explained the problem, and told them that they needed to do something more than reinstall the operating system because that was not working. I sent it back to Acer and they had the gall to return it to me with a note saying that they had - yet again - replaced the operating system. And, yet again, that did no good at all. The Revo is still intermittently freezing and glitching and I can't use it. For my job, I need a PC that functions reliably, not one that fails me 20% of the time. I've lost count of the number of hours I have wasted on this defective chunk of equipment. Since having this problem, I've read a number of review online by people who said their Revos were virtually useless as anything more than a doorstop. I feel cheated by Acer. Their product was defective right out of the box and they have done nothing but deceive me and string me along with false promises rather than making any legitimate effort to provide me with a functioning PC. They have refused to take the Revo back, they have refused to return it, and they have made no real effort to repair it. For the record, I am not giving up - I will sue Acer if I have to, even if the suit costs me more than the stupid PC, because their bad conduct is so egregious and has caused me so much misery and wasted time that I am not comfortable letting them off the hook. But in the meantime, I wanted to share this information so others can be warned away from buying one of these.
