One small quibble I have about the assembly of this monitor is that connecting the base to the monitor itself required pushing together two pieces with an unexpectedly substantial amount of force (I'm a 180 lb guy who lifts weights regularly, so I believe it should be a little fair to say that it shouldn't require that much force). At first, it seemed to me that the two pieces (the base and the slot on the back of the monitor) did not "snap" together. In fact, there was even a thread on the Acer community site where someone had the exact same problem (google "acer g236hl base", and go to the thread "Attaching G236HL Monitor to Base") and the responses in that thread were all completely useless. I eventually found that you simply have to push the base piece into the back of the monitor with a very strong push, and eventually it will very audibly and noticeably *snap* together, and it will then be locked together very securely. However, the force required to get the snap seems to be very large, and I can see someone who doesn't know this that will simply place the monitor on the base without snapping it together, which will lead to a very wobbly monitor (as the OP of the thread mentioned above accurately complained)
In October of 2017, the Acer 23" monitor started not waking up from power save mode, requiring the power to be shut off and back on before it would display an image. Then a few days later, it started shutting itself off randomly; it didn't seem to be linked to how long the monitor had been on, and it didn't seem to be getting hot ... just shutting itself off. Now, it will only display for a few seconds before powering off.
And of course this happens 6 months after the warranty expires. Murphy's law of crap products.
I've bought many Acer products over the years; including probably 9 Acer flatscreen monitors for myself and for others, and the laptop I bought my son this summer ( Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM 15.6-Inch FHD Notebook (Intel Core i3-7100U 7th Generation , 4GB DDR4, 1TB 5400RPM HD, Intel HD Graphics 620, Windows 10 Home), Obsidian Black ). I've generally been more happy than not.
But this is the shortest time to monitor crap-out I've ever seen, including cheap refurbished models, one of which is still going after 10 years. I don't think I'm buying any more Acers.
1. Before you mount the screen, take the stand arm and remove the 2 flathead screws that are tucked up inside (not the 2 near the bottom) using a Philips screwdriver.
2. You can now remove the metal angle adjusting bracket and place it in a vice or use locking pliers to hold it.
3. Loosen the nut on the inside of the bracket with a 10 mm wrench and move the bracket the other way.
4. Put everything back together.
5. Mount the monitor on the stand arm and the stand arm on the base. Tighten the screw on the bottom of the base.
The monitor should now be tilted back slightly for a more comfortable viewing angle.
One more thing that's nice to know but is not included in the product description: the monitor comes with BOTH DVI and VGA cables. I expected the VGA cable but did not see the DVI cable listed. Mac users with a Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt) will need a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter.
