I wanted a monitor with DVI and HDMI out, with stand adjustments for tilt, height, and swivel. There are very few monitors that meet those demands.
First thing I noticed was the obvious difference in color. Every monitor make/model will require some tweaking to get the color right. This is most often done using the color management tools from your video card settings. There are built in controls on this monitor, but they are limited to brightness and contrast. At most you may prefer to lower the default brightness on the screen to around 50/100.
Once you have the color and brightness correctly balanced, I think it's safe you say you have yourself a very nice monitor for the price! I check over the screen for dead pixels and found none, so it's 100% perfect condition.
I've tested video on the computer, and a DVD playing from an xbox360 via HDMI, and it's a very clean, good looking picture.
On other sites such as newegg there is mention from users about the ocassional blue bleeding on the bottom of the screen. I do indeed see that, but only noticed when the bottom of the screen is solid black, and it's not hardly more than a small tinted line. From what I've read, it's found in plenty of LCD monitors, so you really can't hold this against it.
The only negative thing I can say about the screen is the viewing angle is not the best. Looking at the screen from an angle brings out a loss of color. For example, viewing the monitor at 2ft distance you will notice slight tinting to the left and right, especially on whites. At 3ft+ viewing distance, the tinting goes away. So you will want some distance between yourself and this monitor, as well as viewing it straight on. While I don't find that big of an issue, it may be an issue for those looking for the ultimate picture quality while viewing from an angle.
The monitor also comes with built in speakers. Hopefully that is NOT something anyone buying a monitor looks for as an option. The audio playback from the DVD (via HDMI) was pretty bad. I imagine they use the same speakers found in those toy cellphones that children play with. Perhaps with some software tweaking to add some bass into the sound they might be a little bit better, but you should really have speakers for audio anyways.
The one thing that I am disappointed with in this monitor is the inability to switch between the inputs. As I noted at the beginning, I was looking for a monitor with DVI and HDMI inputs. My Dell monitor had DVI, VGA, and composite inputs. However, my Dell also had the ability to change inputs (as well as picture in picture and split screen). I suppose the solution to my problem will be to get an HDMI switcher so I can go between devices.
Between reviews from newegg and good review from PC Mag, I feel I made the right choice. Alot of options I would prefer are not available, so finding the perfect monitor at an affordable price is asking too much. 4 Star rating based on my satisfaction after reading about this monitor and knowing what I was getting. Had I been able to switch between inputs, I would have gladly rated it 5 stars.
The reason I bought this screen is that my Apple 23" Cinema Display broke down and did not have the dookoo to buy a new Apple one. Now that's where the "nice at first" starts and immediately ends... coming from a Cinema Display every other brand sucks, and this is no exception. I guess I was too naive and thought the ACER pro line of monitors could be used for graphics works. Don't even try. If you are into graphic design, photo retouch or video editing do not buy this monitor. The screen's colors are like a rainbow, heavy color shifting from left to right, especially when you move your position. Up and down is even worse (dark/light)... Final thought, nice screen if your working in with spreadsheets and have bad eyes. Any other purpose is not recommended.
