Great replacement for my old nexus 7 (2012)

Absolutely wonderful tablet, I bought it to replace my nexus 7 (2012) that finally died after 3 years of heavy use. This tablet feels like an upgrade over the nexus 7 in every way, at half the price.
Pros: Lightning quick, dual cameras, nice display quality, seems solidly built
cons: only thing so far is that as other reviewers have commented the built in speakers are rather quiet even at max volume, however this is a non-issue for us because we use bluetooth speakers.
edit: 5/5/2015 Decided to buy a second tablet for the wife for when her nexus 7 inevitably dies also.
Edit 2:7/10/15 Still love the tablets, have not had any issues thus far.
Edit 3: 9/13/15 Still haven't had any issues with the tablets
Edit 4: 10/16/15 The tablets have now been used an average of 8 hours a day every day for the past 5 months and still work like new, when these eventually break I will most likely buy more because I feel I have already achieved more than 100$ worth of entertainment from it.
Final edit: 3/2/2016 today I went to turn the tablet on after a night of charging and it would no longer turn on so this will be my final edit, over all the tablet was a very reasonable and reliable tablet.

Acer's Inadequate Volume Range may be a Deal Breaker

This Acer tablet was purchased to replace a Samsung Galaxy Tab III 7", for one simple reason: The entry-level Samsung Tab III has a poor (non HD) resolution screen. I like to view photo galleries through my tablet, and the Samsung's low-res screen wasn't making for a good experience on the likes of Flickr and other such shutterbug websites. Unfortunately, I traded a low-res screen for a low-volume replacement.

In Summary:

The Acer Iconia One 8 tablet does, indeed, offer HD resolution but the extra crisp screen is beleaguered by less than accurate colors, and there's no inbuilt method (or suitable third-party app) to color calibrate the screen. Reds that should be true reds look more like orange-reds. Bummer.

The front-facing camera, at a paltry 0.3MP, should have been left off entirely in favor of a ambient light sensor (so that the screen automatically brightens depending on available light). Low megapixel or not, I've never seen image quality so poor from any digital camera. I owned a 1.3MP camera in 2000 whose images still look crisp today, providing they are not blown up. This front-facing camera, however, is unacceptable even for basic on-screen viewing (Skype). The rear camera, at 5MP, performs considerably better. Not outstanding but at least it doesn't produce images that look as if they have been run through a watercolor filter 10 times over in a photo editing program!

Although I'm not much of an Android gamer — my games of choice are Mahjong and Reversi — this tablet is responsive enough. In fact, there is less lag when swiping between screens than there is on my Samsung Galaxy Tab III 7", thanks to the quad-core processor.Read more ›

Fast and responsive with a great touch screen that is sharp and colorful. I don't use this tablet for gaming, so I can't comment on this aspect of its performance. I was hesitant to buy it at first because of some of the mixed reviews, but am glad I made the purchase. I have a cheap 7" Nobis tablet, and the Acer Iconia One 8 just blows it away. It responds immediately to my touch and the screen seems much larger than what you would expect one more inch would give you. HD pictures I have downloaded onto a 32GB SD card plugged into the Acer look stunning on the display, with good color accuracy and no grain or pixillation. For such a relatively inexpensive 8" tablet, I am very satisfied.

Lack of Operating System support from Acer

Acer has a policy of not supporting their tablets more than two years. This tablet comes wit Android Lollipop operating system loaded on it. Due to the architecture of the Acer hardware kernel, therefore any operating system updates have to come from the vendor, Acer. Do not count on Acer providing any operating system updates.

That said, Acer builds a very nice and highly functional tablet that is equivelent or in some cases surpasses the Samsung tablets. I have an Acer A500 and over all I am pleased with its performance. I expect that my next tablet will be a Samsung due to Acers policy to limit operating system support to just two years.

Worst Tablet I Desperately Want to Love

Here is the thing, I really want to like this tablet. I like so much about it, except I keep getting faulty ones. The first one I received blue tooth didn't work from the start, so I sent it back to Amazon. The replacement worked perfectly, for three weeks. It doesn't charge now. I'm returning it for a replacement one more time. If the third tablet fails so quickly again in anyway, I'll likely return it for my money back. Like I said, I really want to like this tablet, but Acer needs to learn better quality control in manufacturing.

And both times I contacted Acer first to see if they could help me troubleshoot and resolve the problems. Both times after troubleshooting with Acer they confirmed I had a faulty tablet. They want me to send it to them, and wait 7-10 business days for the repairs to be completed once they receive it. I'm returning to Amazon because the return policy is so good and fast since I have Prime.
