Delivery was delayed by shipper due to coming too early in the day and requiring a signature (which I DID want to provide), didn't want this Acer left on the porch. Finally came when I could sign my 'John Hancock', and despite delay, I was still happy. Due to size and weight, factory carton was simply placed inside another cardboard box and shipping label slapped on it, NO additional packing materials. That gave me pause and a bit of concern. HOWEVER, since unpack and set up, using a VSX 1020 audio amp with 7.1 surround-Infinity speaker set; & 1080P HD monitor display 32", this machine (Win 10 OS--new to me, I've been back in Win 7 teritory on previous model) IS a gaming Predator. Able to control cooling fans, and CPU speed +Turbo button on case! Nvidia 980 card- SUPER graphics in highest res I would normally use (1920 x 1080) runs smooth as silk. Included keyboard (back lighted keys, Adj. mouse both OUTSTANDING) Powers up (Win 10) in seconds, would have liked 32 GB RAM but so far, 16 no real operation limit that I have noticed. Also would have preferred 512 SSD, yet 2TB hard drive is plenty of space for game library. OS and links are fine on the 256 SSD card. Fan(s) a bit loud at max running to cool, but once emerced in a game, I do not even notice their sound. Not fond of earphones in game play, like the room rockin' better in FPS & RPG's. SO FAR NOTHING negative to report. Can't figure out how to open the CPU case (which I have done on many other machines over the years to boost cooling via external fans) but this 'beautiful beast' (I used to be a tank commander) displaces heat rapidly on it's own. I feel the CPU case external design (armor tread) ROCKS! Playing Dying Light - Far Cry 4 - Fallout 4 - many other older titles, ALL RUN PERFECT! Awaiting the latest Tomb Raider generation, which should not have any issues, based on performance I have seen over the last month from the AG6-710. Always play only against the 'computer' not any MMP online or co-ops, so I cannot comment on that style of gaming play or ability of this machine over the WW web server responce times, but in stand-alone to date, this machine, for the $$$$ is far and away better for PC gaming than any other I have seen. Have NOT used multi-screen either. Just me against the box! NO ISSUES thus far. Ask me in 6 months, if it's still a toasty toy, I'll report any variations to this review with this ACER, should they occur. B.F.G. out!
Been using this computer for 4 months.
- 6th Generation Intel Core i5-6400 Processor 2.7GHz (6MB cache)
- 8GB DDR4 Dual-Channel 2133MHz Memory
- 1TB 7200RPM SATA III Hard Drive
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX950 Graphics with 2GB of GDDR5 Video Memory
Build quality is good. Wish it has better documentation about where the buttons are.
Probably the quietest machine I have ever used - can hardly hear any sound /even right in front of me.
However, there are 2 negative points found during use.
First, the DVD player button can hardly be reached once open. Blame the "snake scale" looking case panels blocking the button.
Second, performance is really so-so.
Let me give you a brief idea for its performance:
Steam The Sims 3: 1366x768, medium-high settings, 2xAA, the computer may overheat and freeze if room temp is >24*C / 75F.
Forza 6: 1600x900, medium settings, smooth 60fps.
PCSX2: 2x resolution, mid speed hacks, can do Dark Cloud 2, Hot Pursuit 2, GT4, Shutoko Battle 01 etc. without major problems except lock up in licence tests.
Be prepared to buy separate RAM and Display Card upgrade if you plan to use it for intense gaming.
Top reviews from other countries
Everything runs great.
I loved the fact that is so quiet! I can hardly tell if it's on or off.
Cons:
The motherboard is rather limited. There's space for another RAM stick, and another HD. But you won't be able to add a 2nd graphics card, not even a simple little fax-modem. I know, I know, in this day and age! But today still some government offices only have Fax and no email. Fax still beats going to the post office.
Update (July 12, 2017): In just over a year now (15 months), I had to replace the Power Supply unit :( . I didn't say it before, but the graphics card was tricky to install. In fact, at some point I did have some trouble due to some false-contact with the pins. Got to keep an eye on this.
Plus, should you be interested in setting up a dual boot system with Linux and Windows 10, from what I have learned, Acer is notorious for being somewhat harder than the rest to do such setup.
