I got the package and let me tell you that package looked amazing. It was big, it was heavy, and the graphics on it all screamed "ULTIMATE GAMING TABLET" right down to the "Free 320,000 Asphalt 8 Credits" sticker on the front. Opened it up and I see a "Conqure new worlds" flap, and looking at the thing makes me think I'm going to do just that. Red pointed speakers, huge mid-mounted camera, shiny Acer logo, just overall aggressive styling that I'd never seen in a tablet before. I had a good first impression, at least.
Turning it on was also decent. Considering it uses a 32 GB SSD that's as expected, and since it's made for gaming it should be fast. 1.6 GHZ Intel Quad-Core with dedicated GPU- this is hardware meant to run Windows, imagine how Android could work on it! At least that was what I was thinking. After I got the tablet set up (quick, 5 minutes done and done) the first thing that popped out to me is the ABSURD amount of bloatware. I wasn't expecting a stock android experience by no means, but this thing has so much useless crap on it that it's annoying. SOME of it can be deleted, but most of 'em are there to stay, and I wasn't going to be rooting it no way.
Running apps was smooth for the most part, nothing amazing but mostly lag-free. That is until I decided to test out the "Haptic sensor" feature with Asphalt 8. I'll tell you now- the thing works, yeah. If your idea of "works" is random, often annoying buzzing and vibrations, then it works perfectly. But the thing that hit me the most was the LAG. Holy shit. I mean I don't know HOW you can justify lag on a game that was PRE-LOADED on this thing. Now maybe it's because I got it used or it's old, but the lag was HIDEOUS. I was probably running 5-10 FPS on Asphalt 8- the first game I decided to play on my new tablet.
I mean I did only use it for one hour, because the gaming performance was so bad and the ONLY thing I bought it for was for gaming. I did try to view some videos (downloaded some random crap from Youtube), and it's nothing too special, the colors are decent and everything but it's not anything I'd call amazing. If you want to use this for your day-to-day video streaming, binge watching, web-browsing and other tasks, then PLEASE do yourself a favor and turn away. Hell just get a used Galaxy Tab S for 10 bucks cheaper (that's what I'm doing right now) or just SOMETHING ELSE for your entertainment purposes. If you want to use this for gaming... get the Nvidia Sheild K1. It's just better, even if it's not perfect itself. And you'll have 100 more bucks in your pockets to save for a rainy day.
Why I love this tablet,
New and exciting design aimed at gamers and big kids
A screen that is bright and vivid with nice rich color
The back is concave and sporty and provides a contoured grip from the shape
The speakers look fantastic, I love it, screams gaming and they sound better than your average tablet
The colors are well chosen, gaming scheme without being over the top
Touch sensitivity is right on, you touch it, it's happening
Just the right size, it's an 8" but the design makes it feel bigger
Easy set up
Acer, thank you!!! I was so excited to get this tablet since I am a tablet and laptop and desktop gaming fanatic, that I bought this directly through Amazon and chose "Same Day Delivery", this was at about 5 am Eastern time, by 8pm there was a knock on the door and my new tablet was here.
You know what else electronic fanatics are tired of, having to ask if the box is factory sealed. They reply, "it's new in the box". Yea, but wouldn't that make it an open box? Wow, well no disappointments here, this packaged was sealed, undamaged, proper packaging to protect the item, nice!!! That's almost as bad as when some retailers say in stock and then you order it, guess what, no shipping info for 3 business days, wow. Again, I have been ordering from Amazon for years, so far, every item shown in stock, was in stock.
Opening the beautiful double box from ACER was a treat, the box bled quality and innovation to attract even the nerdiest of nerds. I have had many, many devices, gaming laptops and gaming desktops made from scratch, but I'll tell you right now, for $249.99 on Amazon, I couldn't be happier. I think we can all agree you get punished when you shop a some retailers that almost purposely postpone shipping for 1 to 3 days, I wasn't about to let that happen to me. I cannot even begin to tell you how tired I was of the same tablets, especially the all gray ones, are you kidding me!!! My grandmother would even be board with that presentation. Woe Daddy Stand Back. It's like a throwback to 50's in black and white. I have only had the tablet now for 2 days, I have downloaded and played games, nothing big, just low level fast moving fun games from the play store. I have a great desktop for intense video gaming, I look at my tablet as the couch potato machine, when you feel like you have ignored your significant other too long, you put the mouse and keyboard down and retreat to the living room where everyone is usually watching tv and playing with their cell phones. Then, you pull out the PREDATOR and totally steal the show.
