2.0 out of 5 starsGood monitor, Acer, as well as other monitor manufacturer's need to improve quality control.

Let me just start by saying this monitor in terms of price and image quality is very good. It's got nice viewing angles, a bright/vivid picture with nice colors, all three display ports/audio jack etc... it's a matte finish too which is great for people who have keyboards that light up as it won't reflect onto the monitor itself like my last Acer H236HL did with the glossy mirror finish.
That being said, this is my 3rd Acer monitor in a row that has shipped with exactly one dead pixel somewhere on the screen. The first one, an Acer H236HL from Best Buy, came with a dead pixel on the upper left of the screen and since I purchased that at Best Buy, I was out of the 14 day return window. I then decided to give Acer a second shot with this R240HY model since it hit all the check points I was currently looking for a monitor mentioned above as the glossy screen of the H236HL was a big hindrance in any area with light coming in. After a day of using it I did a dead pixel test against red, green, blue, white and black backgrounds and against blue backgrounds it had a dead pixel right near the center of the screen. As usual Amazon was great with the replacement without hassle. Unfortunately my second monitor came with a defect on the upper left. A black dot was now present on the upper left of my screen across all colored backgrounds. I contacted Amazon and they've offered me a refund but no further replacement which is still great service by them as this is completely on Acer and not them.
I really liked this monitor overall but I can't let a 3rd dead pixel in a row slide from the same manufacturer and will probably have to look for alternatives. Unfortunately a lot of people easily overlook a dead pixel or two, or simply never notice them but I find even one dead pixel a complete failure on the manufacturer's part and I will inspect every background on a newly purchased monitor. Note: if you go through Acer RMA, they consider 10 dead pixels acceptable on 1080P screens and 16 acceptable on 2K screens, so keep that in mind when shopping with them.
In conclusion, it's a shame because I really wanted to keep this monitor as the image quality for the price is superb, but it's pretty obvious where they cut corners to keep the prices down. I urge all of you to do a simple dead pixel test online after a few days of owning a new monitor as you're entitled to a brand new product without manufacturing defects.
