My monitor of two years, the ASUS VH236H, decided to bite the dust yesterday. I needed a cheap replacement to use until I had enough money to get something better. I live in a small town and a local store is the only place I could go to buy a monitor. They only had one monitor on sale, and this was that monitor. Time for the review:

The Good
----------------
Very thin
Minimalistic design
Easy to set up
Very bright display
On-screen menus are easy to navigate

The Bad
----------------
Horrible viewing angles
On-screen menus do not offer enough customization
No HDMI port (I hear other models have them. Mine does not.)
Poor contrast
Slightly inaccurate colors

What's included in the box is the monitor itself, a stand to attach to the monitor and a base for it, a VGA cable, a power cable, and a CD with the manual and user guides in PDF form. The stand easily connects to the base. There is a screw on the underside of the base that secures the base to the stand. The stand fits into the monitor easily and feel very sturdy. On the other hand, it is very difficult to pull the stand out if you want to.

The monitor has both DVI and VGA ports. There isn't a HDMI port. I connected my computer using DVI. After both an Acer logo and an Energy Star logo, the thing finally gave me a picture. The display is very bright. It is not blindingly bright, but still pretty clear. There are six buttons on the under side of the display. Under the Acer logo is a small, but long plastic button that lights up. It is the power button. It took me a while to figure out that was the power button because that was not mentioned in the Quick Guide. It said there was a power button, but didn't say what it was.

The toughest part of setting this up was figuring out how to turn it on. We thought something was defective, e.g. monitor, power supply. There is no clear marking where the On/Off button is. Based on the instructions, I thought it was one of the five buttons that are grouped together. Nope. The "button" is a sliver of clear plastic right under the logo at the bottom center of the monitor.
As for the quality, seems fine. It was a very reasonable price at Walmart and suits my purposes. I don't play video games and haven't tried watching any TV shows online yet, but it seems just fine. I'll revise this if I change my mind after using it more.

We ordered 12 of these monitors for our office. Two of them were DOA and three more failed after only 6 months of use. I would not order these if you want a reliable monitor. I would only get this if you're mentally prepared to go through an RMA process.

I would recommend a 24" Hanns-G or ASUS for a relatively cheap alternative that is seemingly much more reliable.

Like most of you I was forced into buying a new monitor. Otherwise my old one broke and I needed something fast. There's been a lot of changes in monitor selections since I started I was looking for something about 24 inches. I found it. I was looking for something with better resolution than my old monitor. I found that I was looking for something energy-efficient, you know how that goes. And the lower heat was a plus. I was looking for something fast enough to play some of my games with a frame rate above 60 FPS. I was looking for something in my price range. Again, a plus, now I was looking for something with HDMI cable connections. I did get that, but not what I expected. There is HDMI, but not with an HDMI cable. I also wanted sound. I didn't exactly get that Either but I'm still okay with that, the price was perfect. The size was perfect and if it lasts me. I won't really Answer That yet because I've only had the thing for about 3 or 4 days, so I'm not sure in the long run what's going to happen if there are any updates. I will post them, but for now this is a good deal, but like I said, if you're looking for those very high frame rates. It's not going to happen, but I am still new with this and I will keep you updated as to what kind of performance I get from this item

I just bought this monitor. So far it seems pretty good to me. Set up was very simple. The design of this monitor is very nice and modern. I actually really love the look. It did take a few minutes to locate the power button. It is on the bottom directly in the center under the Acer logo. I'm not super tech efficient, but the viewing quality is pretty good for me. Color seems accurate, brightness is good. I have been using for work functions so far though, and have not had an opportunity to plug my casual laptop in and watch a video, etc. If I notice any issues I will update this review. Also I am having zero issues with angle viewing. I noticed someone complained about that, but I find the viewing angles are fine. If anything, it is likely a little funky because the screen size is 24" and this is not a rounded monitor. For me, it is not hard to look at. Mine did not include an HDMI plug on the monitor. This is really weird because the manual actually mentions the HDMI plug on the back of the monitor, shows it in images, yet it is not on mine. This is not an issue for me, but it is odd some versions have this and others don't. I used the VGA cable to connect my laptop. Package included VGA cable, but not the DVI.
