-Worked great for 1.5 years
-Failed after 1.5 years, screen was blurry, not usable right now. Fortunately it was during the warranty period. I would have been happy with it except: See second point
-Talked to customer support, they admitted that there is a documented overheating issue with this monitor and told me I had to send it back. They told me I was responsible for the shipping cost to them. This is a pretty hefty monitor so it was very expensive to ship. I asked them if they could pay it but they refused each time. I find this ridiculous since this is a failure on their end I have the inconvenience of not having a monitor for a couple weeks AND pay shipping equal to around 10% of the monitor's value.
I will not be purchasing any Acer products in the future as I was very disappointed with how the monitor failure was handled. People who pay for a monitor like this pay for a premium product and the support was anything but premium.
General & Background:
The monitor itself is fantastic. I am on a dual monitor setup - my old main monitor was a 24.5 inch Dell "ultra-sharp" IPS that was about 9 years old. Surprisingly that old monitor was an absolute beast (As an IT Professional, I build any PC's that I'm going to be using, so ANYTHING Dell, normally is NOT in my 'fanbook'). The old dell monitor will now be used as my second display in my dual screen setup, is it is still very sharp/crisp.
In my spare time even at 32 years old I am a gaming enthusiast...It was probably encoded into my DNA. At this age, I'm to the point to where I can afford nice things and not have to worry about "was that a good decision". This... Was a very good decision. The colors are crisp, clear and sharp. The motion during FPS games (and others) are VERY good. The G Sync is incredibly easy (It is pretty much plug and play). I wish g-sync and ulmb would work together, but due to the technicalities behind it, it is understandable as to why it doesn't. The 144hz indeed makes a HUGE difference. Everything (even non gaming related) looks Very smooth and fluid.
In the future I will be buying the 27" 4K version, but right now I am gaming on an older custom built rig, so this 1080p Acer suffices for now (i7 2600k overclocked, 8GB RAM, with a GTX 970). The graphics card memory "free-up" is pretty nice as well (thanks to the G Sync chip in the monitor helping).
Parts & packaging:
The DP (display port) cord that comes with this monitor unfortunately is pretty short (I think it may be a 3 foot cord). If it is too short for you, DO NOT permanently use DVI or others, you are selling yourself short. Stick with the DP. Until USB-C takes over as 'King of all Ports', display port is THE way to go. If the DP Cord is too short for you, buy a longer cord; even good quality DP Cords are super cheap on Amazon.
The packaging for the monitor was very well organized/protected as well as pretty frustration free. The "manual" doesn't have much to it (no big deal, I can find the detailed manual online).
The stand itself is VERY nice for an OEM stand. The swivel/adjust functions work incredibly well and were engineered flawlessly imo. The base however is kindof clunky. It's a bit big, and not the best in terms of ergonomics (not a deal breaker though).
I just got this monitor over the weekend, so we'll see how things go, but Acer has become one of the leaders of the pack in terms of monitors. Boy have they come a long way since their inception (they used to be very "so-so" in most of their stuff).
Overall I am very impressed so far. And I don't impress easily unless something is generally a very good product (that's probably the I.T. blood in me).
Due to the base of the monitor and price (I feel like close to $400 bucks is a little expensive for a 24 inch [but that's kindof standard for 144hz G Sync right now]), I'm giving this 4 stars, but if there were a half star option it would definitely get 4.5 from me.
Summary of product:
Best monitor I've owned to date. If you're a gamer, you NEED 144hz G Sync in your life. (Don't ever let anyone tell you G Sync or 144hz doesn't make a huge difference). Because it DEFINITELY does.
Thank You Acer. You guys rock.
