TV wall mount blocks off all RCA jacks (have many HMDI inputs), so decided to give this a try. Using TV in another room, set PS2 slim to RGB output and deselected optical audio out. Hooked it all up to game room TV (including provided USB power cable) and video and audio work great on a Sony Bravia flat-screen. Does take up a PS2 front USB port to power the adapter. Attached thick padded feet to bottom of PS2 and ran USB power cable under PS2 so cable is about as hidden as can be, and not draped over top of PS2. The adapter does stick out several inches, so do need some space behind the unit. Was not expecting change in video or audio quality, but they both appear to be same or better than traditional RCA hook ups. So far so good, hopefully will continue to work for many years to come. This adapter saved me from having to re-engineer a wall-mount, and put yet another of several classic game systems back into use, all on same TV.

Had no video signal like other customers, but got it to work.

The product arrived on time and was nicely packaged. After setting my PS2 to YPbPr video output, I installed the converter with the USB plugged into the PS2's front port. I had no video much like many people who left negative reviews. My TV DOES support 480i over HDMI, so there must be another reason why people could be having this problem. So I ran it without the USB plugged into the unit, and sure enough I had video with 480i displaying in the status window. Not sure why this happens, or why the unit even needs USB power. Regardless the unit does work and the picture quality is nice for 480i upscaled by the TV to 720p. My Wii2HDMI is set to run at 480p letterboxed, but I can't do that with the PS2 converter since my TV still believes it's an analog signal, even though it's digital. Oh well.

    Positives:
    -Low latency
    -Sharp video output
    -Easy to install
    -Cheap

    Negatives:
    -Lack of proper instructions
-USB cable seems more detrimental than anything
-I can't play PSX games on it (Not really the device's fault, just that 240p content on an HDTV needs external scaling.)*

Plugged it into my PS2, connected the usb cable, connected the HDMI cable, turned on PS2. Sound was really poppy, fixed that by turning off Digital Optical in the settings. Kingdom Hearts looks good but its got black bars on the sides now. Mega Man X Collection wont play. I heard you have to use rf, composite, or svideo for that game though. Also if you use a digital optical cable it wont fit with this HDMI adapter plugged in. My whole reason for buying this and the Wii adapter was to remove cable clutter and theyve done that and do a good enough job videowise also.

It worked great at first, but then the screen started randomly dropping out. Initially, it would not do this until after maybe 10 or 15 minutes of playing; eventually, it got to the point where it would occur after only a few minutes. It is likely a heat related issue. As the adapter gets warmer, it refuses to work. Once it has heated up, it will not even display a picture upon resetting the machine. If left about five minutes, it will start displaying a picture again -- albeit not for long.

I switched back to the composite cable and everything has been fine -- although much less sharp

This product was recieved and I hooked it up in hopes of it being a simple plug-and-play item just like my wii converter: not even close! I tried it as instructed, didn't work. Sent an e-mail to the company they suggested I go to the PbYr set up! My response, That's what I had without the HDMI converter only my new TV doesn't have RCA inputs! I told them it doesn't work and they told me to send it back, no address or instructions as to how. Told Amazon and they are supposed to refund my money with their A-Z guarentee. Watch the difference where you are getting the product from, overseas is a nightmare!

Worked right out of the box! Plugged it into the back of parents old PS2 then to their new LCD TV. Wow did it look better once this was added.

Pay attention to the negative reviews. They are negative because they did not do something correctly or they got the wrong item. I knew there were possible setting issues that may come up, but I didn't encounter any. If you do have any issues, play around with the settings like some of the other post mention and you will be set.

This converter works well and is easy to plug in and use! HOWEVER: and this is the big however- you will also need two additional components to attach it to your tv and make it work (they don't tell u that and to me, they should offer the bundle fora higher price so it is ready to get you gaming out of the box!). You will need an HDMI cable (double male) of the length needed to connect your PS2 to your TV (9.99 at Best Buy for 4 feet) and a USB wall plug (the mini to USB connector cable provided for the power connection is probably 3 feet or a meter, which also might not be long enough to reach from your PS2 to your power supply - so you might need a longer one of those too).
All in all, the deal is priced alright but add to it the wall plug (19.99 at Best Buy) and the HDMI cable (I needed 6 feet which was 19.99 at Best Buy)
What I suggest, in order to avoid aggravation of getting the part and not being able to make your game console work is to go ahead and order the other needed parts at the same time!

it does not upscale, it leaves the picture at 480i. it's not bad considering what it is, and what it does, but it sucks to set up. make sure you have it so its the composite, not rca when you hook it up and you should be fine. And in terms of needing power, it does. But it comes with a short USB cable that you can plug into the front port.
