I think I have a love /hate relationship with Miss Cory Cyr’s books. I love to hate them, or I hate to love them. I’m still not sure which.
I do love a good erotica. And I have recently been reading the older woman/younger men ones because they are different than my normal M/M ones that I have been reading. This one just didn’t flip my switch.
I found Cas to be immature and self centered. I couldn’t understand how a woman of Nic’s background could ever find that attractive. I also took issue with the fact that what they felt was purely physical, yet, they spoke and thought of each other as if it held more depth. They didn’t get to know each other, it was all sexual. He thought she was hot for a widow and she thought he was hot for a younger guy. That’s it. They didn’t get to know each other on a more personal level and that right there killed it for me. I know I may sound a bit hard on this book but I need more to really suspend my belief.
I found the constant warring of feelings by both MC’s in this book to be monotonous and a bit boring. It took me three days to finish the last few chapters making this my least favorite book by this author so far. The setting didn’t really seem pertinent to the plot either, making me think it was for shock value and not really needed for the progress of the characters in the story line.
All in all I will most likely read another one from this author because I know that she has good books in her. This one wasn’t one of those for me. And I love being proven wrong.
Cass is a professor of Human Sexuality. He is clinical and cold and to the point. Emotions can not play a part of his sex life. He sees sex as a physical release, nothing more. He takes a sabbatical for his work to do some research on an island that serves as a male brothel. He's out to prove that emotions have nothing to do with sex... that is until he meets Nic.
Nic is duped into visiting the island with her two best friends. It's been 11 years since he husband, her soulmate died. She has had no interaction with people - especially men. She's not here to meet someone, she just wants to stay to herself and get through the next 21 days without having to humiliate herself any further. But when Cass strikes up a conversation with her and the two become friends, something starts to happen to Nic - and she's not sure what's happening between the two of them, but it's something she wants to explore.
This book was full of raw emotions from both Cass and Nic. You find yourself loving and hating Cass and really pulling for Nic to come through this hurdle in her life.
Great writing, sexy characters, keeping you wondering what's next for this duo. Highly recommend.
Nicola "Nic", has been widowed for 11 years. She's been existing, not living. Her only outlets are her phone, and prized Xbox. Two of her friends decide to take her on a vacation, for her 40th birthday, in the rouse of obtaining a Coach purse. So she thinks okay, at night I can just relax in my room, play games, and read. NOT! When she steps off the yacht, onto a beautiful island, she notices that the women are all older, and she's greeted by ALOT of hot young men. She's even more confused by the fact that she has to forgo all electronic devices, for 21 days, per the disclaimer agreement that she signed. She looks to her two best friends and is instantly pissed. However, she decides to go along with the plans. Little did she know it would change her life forever.
Caspian, "Cass", is HOT!!! He's also on the island, but not for the reasons that the other guys are there for. He's a 26 year old genius, and a Professor in Human Sexuality. Cass is in the process of writing his third novel. That's why he's on the island. He's there to do research on older woman. But what he doesn't anticipate, is learning more about himself and his feelings.
There are a lot of emotions that are tested. Friendships begin to crumble, and lies come to surface.
I gave the 5 star rating due to the fact that these feelings that both characters were feeling, are very believable. There were zero typos, which is something that turns me off immensely. The story was easy to follow. The scenes weren't drawn out too long, either.
