I gotta be honest and say that I was a little scared to start this one based on how The Barrier Between ended but once I started it I couldn’t put it down. Zoey is back at DMG and the last we saw of our Viking, Ryker, was him in the clutches of Vadik. So the questions start to pop up? What’s become of The Wanderer? Where’s my favorite narcoleptic-ADD-honey loving sprite, Sprig? Hell, I even wanted to know what the hell happened with Amara and Croygen and let me tell you all of these questions and a ton more get answered and then some! And let me tell you the “and then some” I didn’t even see coming.

So much happens in this one and most of it falls into the land of spoilers so you really, REALLY need to read it to experience it all, but what can be said is that both Zoey and Ryker go through hell in this one, both physically and emotionally but their stubborn natures and the need to see each other, as well as protect those they love, again trumps everything else. Their determination to do whatever it takes to survive has them making tough decisions and relying on people that they don’t necessarily trust but know that they need in order to survive. Through all of this I felt like Zoey finally came into her. She still has her stubborn streak and is a little reckless, but there is now a maturity to her that wasn’t fully there before. She finally sees the big picture and her place in it all. Ryker, is still the stubborn Viking, but even he has moments of enlightenment that have him taking a step back and re-evaluating his views.

Then there are the rest of the crazy cast of characters that inhabit this world. Dr. Rapava is one sick f(u)(c)k. That is really the only way that I can truly describe him. His kind of crazy is off the charts.

First, I must note that this review was written 3 days after finishing this new Collector series book so as to allow myself time to simmer down from the intense emotions throughout this book and the shocking--and frustrating--cliffhanger Ms Stacey Marie Brown left us with.

Now *slightly* calmer, I want to emphasize that Ms Brown's ability to get me so wrapped up in her world, provoking such real, consuming tension about the health, well-being, relationship and future of her characters clearly demonstrates how well she writes. I was already a Ryker fan (swoon!), a Zoey supporter (Go, girl, with that go-get-'em, no-regrets attitude), a Sprig lover (the cutest little blunt, crude, and insane anomaly since Cal & Simmon's in Ms Brown's Darkness series) and am starting to be more of a Croygen appreciator (amusing pirate with a--well deserved--ego), but thanks to the life-or-death ultimatums, danger, and dire situations in this book, we learn so much more about them. With Zoey imprisoned by her old government employer and Ryker at the hands of demon Vadik, their deepest fears, morals, strengths and weaknesses, and essential personalities are revealed, giving the whole book a very raw, exposed feel.

Though I stress the series is one of my favorites, I cannot lie: this book will leave you feeling depressed and horrified on behalf of Zoey and Ryker, but there are occasional threads of hope stemming from our allegiance to the characters from past books and the tendrils of snort-out-loud hilarity from Sprig and Croygen that kept me rooting for our guys with fingers crossed. I read this book far too fast given the soul-gutting subject matter, but the flow, anticipation, and surprises meant I could not put this book down, although on many occasions I wanted to (in the hopes that if I didn't read more, nothing else bad would happen)! A brilliant piece of work, that has left my heart clutched almost out of my chest until Ms Brown releases the 4th book in 2016!

Okay, I have to say that this review comes months after reading this incredible 3rd installment of the Collectors series due to the intense emotions throughout this book and the OMG ending that left me in a series of emotional outbursts.

Now that I'm able to compose myself and write a review I leave you with the following: I want to emphasize that Stacey Marie Brown's ability to pull you in from the beginning and not let go throughout the entire book is incredible. The world she has created throughout this entire series feels real, with consuming tension about the future of her characters clearly demonstrates how well she writes. I have to admit that Ryker (My sexy Viking) has been my book boyfriend since the beginning of this amazing series.(hot flashes!),Zoey who brings it with full bad@ssery with the full weight of the world on her shoulders) I can't forget my little sprite monkey who still steals your heart, with his mischievous and comical outburst. (Love ole sprig) Also, another one who absolutely caught me off guard was the sexy Croygen (sexy pirate)

This series is one that will stay with you forever. I've re-read the first two books twice so far! this book will leave you with reeling emotions and sometimes emotional outburst (more than not) that kept me turning the pages and trying to consume as much of the book as possible. I read this book so fast, that I had to do a re-read all over again (not that I minded) I found new words that were even more explicate than the first! I read this book far too fast given the soul-gutting subject matter, The flow, and surprises had me captured from the beginning. The anticipation for the next book is nail biting maddening! An incredible story that has left my heart clutched while waiting the last book in the series. Stacey Marie Brown, you are and have been one of my favorite authors. I can not wait to see what you have in store for us next.
