Chaz and Andi are working with Spyral to investigate Leviathan while getting their secret ID’s from Nemesis. Just… Nemesis.
The title of this issue is, ‘The Nemesis of my Nemesis is my… Nemesis!’
What… the… hell. I don’t know what’s going on. It’s just STUFF. Superman (Chaz) beats up a robot and throws him into a blue light. Jimmy Olsen takes photos of Amanda Waller in the Fortress of Solitude for no apparent reason. There is a page where Chaz and Andi are tied up surrounded by fire while Supergirl flies after The Penguin who is escaping in a helicopter. It’s hard to see that it’s the Penguin but I was able to tell because for some bizarre reason Bendis always writes the Penguin saying ‘wheyp’ after every sentence. We also get one of the worst, most transparent exposition dumps I’ve ever seen because Bendis is a terrible writer.
Issue 1010 has an aggregate score of 7.9 from professional reviewers and a 6.6 User Rating. Neither of those are awful scores and are pretty much par for the course in the Bendis era. I’m always amused that you’ll find professional reviewers giving comics like this mid to high 9’s and in one case a perfect 10 as in this is nearly as good as comics get or possibly as good as it gets. The lowest score I saw was a 4.0. It’s one thing to have differing tastes but the thought that ANYONE could see this issue as a 9.7 or a 10.0 is just mind blowing. In other words, this is Watchmen level or The Dark Knight Returns level writing. Absurd. Action Comics 1008 shipped 44k issue in February which again, is not terrible, but the series seems to be on an inexorable downward slide. Bring back Jurgens, bring back Tomasi. This is awful.
