“…a passion for exactitude, and complete attention to even the most minor detail are secrets of success,” to quote the author and also accurately reflects this magnificent work of literature. I knew nothing of this period before this read and now look forward to learning more, thanks to this author.
The main character has everything we look for in an adventure hero including tall, agile, intelligent, compassionate, insightful and even somewhat Teflon coated. Historic detail, vessel terminology, costume descriptions and larger than life action scenes in graphic and gory detail (oh to see them on the big screen) and clashing waves kept the stomach churning, and the pages turning. Massive and accurate historical research, some dialect and even language(s) appropriate to the time frame of 1810 are perfect and add spice and flavor. The characters are numerous, alive, and we gain a clear understanding of the events described.
Truly and especially for a first attempt, this author is going to go places fast and I cannot wait to read his next adventure. Good job and well done.
As to the lonely review, I was walking through a big parking lot of dusty subcompact cars and came across a shining Rolls Royce …with bird poop down the driver’s door. Epiphany!
Butt one of the things I noticed about all these stories is they, the authors , Don,t go in to much detail as to changes that take over as time goes by, New equipment, equipment failures. Such as a cannon blowing up.
Failures of ropes, masts etc. These ships were a for forest of masts and. Yardarms miles of ropes.
Fires are never covered in these stories.
When did they first experience the use of paint to keep worms out of the wood. Cooperating.
