I checked the temperature with a digital and an analog thermometer and the AcuRite was within two degrees but always high. I didn't have a way to check the humidity so I relied on the weather service for a recording station about 10 miles from me and the AcuRite was pretty close. I live in a low humidity area and I did notice that when the humidity gets below about 10% the result doesn't seem to be off more but it's close enough.
The display is pretty bright but you can dim it if it's plugged into AC. It will automatically dim if running off the batteries.
I have used this brand before and not had problems. This one was apparently defective. I did use the Amazon technical support but they could not tell me anything I did not already know. The company did not show a phone number or chat option. I elected to return it.

Upon opening the box I was very surprised by the fact that I was already seeing colour imagery on an unpowered display. Everything on the above Acurite website and the Amazon page indicates that this weather station has a "color LCD screen", but that claim is true only in the distorted world of deceptive marketing. From photographs on both sites one would never guess that the 02077M does NOT have a colour LCD display according to the conventional definition of "colour LCD" (ie. programmable colour pixels). What it actually has is a very simple, cheap monochrome LCD display behind which they've stuffed a static colour printed image, basically just a postcard. Visually it is painfully obvious, looks really cheesy, and brings the realization that CA$51.99 is grossly overpriced.
Unfortunately fake colour is not the only problem with this display. Normally one is concerned with horizontal viewing angle, but with this display I was struck at how truly terrible the vertical viewing angle is. One might expect that the ideal viewing position would be an eyeline perpendicular to the centre of the display surface, but that is very definitely NOT true for the 02077M. Viewed straight on in that manner, the black characters are actually badly faded, as seen in the attached photos (it's actually even worse in real life). Viewed from a little below the perpendicular, the black characters are nearly gone. To get anything like acceptable clarity, one must view the display from above the perpendicular. Apparently the design team felt that customers would only use this weather station on a table top or mounted to a wall at stomach level or thereabouts. Placing it at eye level is simply not an option. The unit does not have any sort of tilt mechanism to adjust for this. If your family members vary in height by too much, then I suppose they could draw straws for who has to stand on a stool to use this weather station.
I don't yet have a good sense for the accuracy of its forecasts. So far I have noticed its temperature trend arrows telling me the temperature is unchanging when its own readings have been showing otherwise and changing in a direction opposite reality (ie. rising while the actual number displayed has been falling and vice versus). A small minority of the time trend arrows do agree with reality.
UPDATE: It is January 2019 and the outdoor humidity is reading 1% most of the time now, occasionally bouncing around in the 11 to 15% range before collapsing back to 1% again. That is ridiculously wrong. We live on British Columbia's south coast, often described as a temperate rainforest and most definitely very, very wet during most of the winter. Credible sources report humidity to be 79% at the time corresponding to the 1% photo I've added to this review. The temperature readings are still being updated and are plausible values, indicating no problem with batteries or radio range. Of course I called the Acurite toll free support number in the user manual, but an automated Acurite voice simply announces that the number is disconnected, providing an alternate non-toll free number. I sent a warranty claim email to Acurite's support (aka Chaney Instruments) and waited 3 days. No response. I emailed again and waited another 3 days before receiving an inane response referencing a different product and pointing to an FAQ advising to use the batteries I'm already using. The response suggests to me that the support person isn't interested and/or doesn't understand the product. Rather than be frustrated with Acurite's lousy customer support, I've arranged Amazon to send a replacement unit, which I am now waiting for. I probably should have requested a refund instead, but that will happen if this next unit is also problematic.
I cannot recommend the Acurite 02077M/RM and would actually advise avoiding Acurite altogether.
Update: It is September 2019. So far the replacement unit has not failed again, unless one considers weather forecasts being frequently very wrong a failure. We just ignore the forecast feature now. It's a glorified fake colour thermometer/humidity meter. There are cheaper alternatives that accomplish that, with better viewing angles.
