Ada Lovelace: A Life from Beginning to End: Biographies of Women in History, Book 12 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 342 ratings

Discover the remarkable life of Ada Lovelace...

As the sole legitimate child of Lord Byron, Ada Lovelace was the progeny of literary royalty. Many might have naturally expected her to go into the field of her father, but instead of delving into poetry, she delved into the hard sciences of mathematics and analytic thinking. Even so, Ada still had the imagination of a lyricist when writing scientific treatises, at times referring to her own work as nothing short of “poetical science”.

Everything she did, she did with passion and dogged determination. It was this drive that led Ada to look farther and search deeper than her contemporaries. Her unique vision led her to become one of the pioneers of the modern computer and one of the world’s first computer programmers.

But what exactly do we know about Ada Lovelace, and how can it be quantified? Listen to this book to find out more about the 19th-century mathematician and writer Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace.

Discover a plethora of chapters, such as:

  • The Daughter of Lord and Lady Byron
  • Early Years of Paralysis
  • The World’s First Computer Programmer
  • Rumors and Laudanum Addiction
  • A Grim Prognosis
  • Last Days and Death
  • And much more!

A very well told story of an amazing woman. Ada was very human, complex and fruitful in her short life. Its tragic elements resemble those of her father, Lord Byron. A short book, but worth the price and time to read about her association with Charles Babbage and the beginnings of our Computer Age.

This is an insightful biography of Ada Lovelace. She was the daughter of Lord Byron the English poet. It is interesting to see that she became interested in mathematics in the 1850's and was responsible for what became a computer a 100 years later.

Overcoming illness and a broken home, young Ada Lovelace looked for love in all the wrong places, and finally found true love in Science ! This One hour story is wonderful to listen to, you will find yourself cheering her on as she overcomes every barrier in a 'Man's World' - her studies and notes becoming even more important than the lessons taught to her by learned professors. Ada's story touches on her core understanding that machines could be made to do complex mathmatics, even 'think' for people... If you are using a SmartPhone, you have a bit of Ada's discoveries right in your hand. Come enjoy the very personal story of an Amazing woman that changed computing science forever. A must read for every girl, boy, STEM student, programmer, scientist, or engineer looking for Inspiration and Discovery !

What a fascinating lady! I enjoyed learning about her and her antics! She was truly a genius before her time! To think her calculations made such a difference in today's computing. Lord Byron would be proud!

What an amazing, but obviously very troubled, woman.
Seemingly, a checkered life, questionable morals for the times, but a brilliant and determined mind.
A short book that still uncovers her own brief, but amazing, life. … with a lasting legacy.

I like reading about the ups and downs of a genius. The history of science fascinates me. It's interesting that she had natural gift for the hard science of math, but her life was like an artist.
