Ada Twist, Scientist Kindle Edition

4.9 4.9 out of 5 stars 5,278 ratings

Inspired by mathematician Ada Lovelace and physicist Marie Curie, this #1 bestseller from author Andrea Beaty and illustrator David Roberts champions STEM, girl power, and women scientists in a rollicking celebration of curiosity, the power of perseverance, and the importance of asking “Why?”

Now a Netflix series!

#1 New York Times Bestseller

A Wall Street Journal Bestseller

A USA Today Bestseller

Ada Twist’s head is full of questions. Like her classmates Iggy and Rosie (stars of their own
New York Times bestselling picture books Iggy Peck, Architect and Rosie Revere, Engineer), Ada has always been endlessly curious. Even when her fact-finding missions and elaborate scientific experiments don’t go as planned, Ada learns the value of thinking through problems and continuing to stay curious.

Ada is an inquisitive second grader who was born to be a scientist. She possesses an unusual desire to question everything she encounters: a tick-tocking clock, a pointy-stemmed rose, the hairs in her dad’s nose, and so much more. Ada’s parents and her teacher, Miss Greer, have their hands full as the Ada’s science experiments wreak day-to-day havoc.

On the first day of spring, Ada notices an unpleasant odor. She sets out to discover what might have caused it. Ada uses the scientific method in developing hypotheses in her smelly pursuit. The little girl demonstrates trial and error, while appreciating her family’s full support. In one experiment, she douses fragrances on her cat and attempts to place the frightened feline in the washing machine.

For any parent who wants STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to be fun, this book is a source of inspiration that will get children excited about science, school, learning, and the value of asking “Why?”

This seller rated the book as very good, yet it was like brand new, never touched. A lovely surprise!Like it's Rosie cousin, this book is as fun for the adult to read as for the children. It introduces some advanced vocabulary and has a lesson too, all wrapped in some of the best rhyming verse I've ever enjoyed....and I've enjoyed a lot as a parent of two boys, one an adult with special needs. "The kid thing" gets old after 21 strait years but I'll never tire of this story. My son loved it! Together we'll unwrap the meaning of words like hypothesis, havoc, mockingbirds, frazzled, high-flying, resulted and pungent, who's use in the story are perfectly perfect. And like a good movie, it makes you cry a little as watch the awakening young Ada, and then discover Mom and Dad grow too! Thanks Andrea Beaty and David Roberts - You never disappoint!

I bought this years ago and never left a review. This was THE book for my daughter (until she got older and got into Dogman). She adored this book, read it multiple times, and I just can't give it enough praise. The other Quentioneers books are also excellent, but this is the one we started with and it has a very special place in my heart as I'm a VERY big fan of questioning things and how science works. That it's not an immediate answer, you just get less and less wrong :)

I volunteer with a reading program, and purchased this as a gift for the child I worked with last school year. I love that it was aimed right for her sweet spot, the child in the book is bright and inquisitive, just like she is. She promised to read it over the summer so that we can talk about it when school starts in August. As a note, its hard to judge the difficulty level as at that age, kids have vastly different reading comprehension skills. I think it was perfect for the awesome child I worked with.

As a parent who has had to read Iggy Peck Architect to my daughter every night for the last year- despite the fact that she knows every word by memory- I have to say that this is a great addition to the 3 book tome. While I love Rosie Revere and the great message it sends to girls, my daughter hasn't fallen in love with it as much as I have. Ada Twist Scientist while still not in our nightly reading pile--Iggy still is--has managed to make it in at least 2/3 times a week. My daughter loves it-again not quite as much as Iggy Peck but more than Rosie Revere. It's a great story in that it's a reminder that gifted children come in many forms. The Einsteins of the world are messy, constantly questioning to the point of annoyance, and constantly testing. It's a reminder to parents that genius doesn't come in a neatly wrapped bow there is quite a bit of mess that comes with genius. It also shows how important it is to allow your children to be children, let them ask questions, let them seek and find answers to those questions, yes it'll be messy, inconvenient even, but ultimately you're supporting your child in developing and becoming an intelligent and productive human being. This book is definitely my new favorite, Rosie Revere is a close second and Iggy Peck is great too. Buy all three you will not regret the purchase!

My kids love these books! My 7 year old goes around just randomly saying “Ada Twist, Scientist” over and over again because she loves the sound of it coming off her tongue.

The stories and illustrations are awesome, and I love how they encourage our kids to tap into who God made them to be as individuals. Ada Twist is my daughter’s favorite of them so far (we’re hoping there will be more to come), so it has me paying attention to her love for science and how we can encourage that along. It’s given me more insight into my own kid because I thought “Rosie Revere Engineer” would be her favorite. She loves Rosie, for sure, but Ada Twist ended up being her favorite.

My son likes “Iggy Peck Architect” the most, so it’s interesting to see what each of them are drawn to. I asked my son if he just preferred Iggy because he’s a guy (wondering if he could relate more to the guy than to the 2 girls), but he said it’s just a really funny book and he likes “all the architect stuff”. It’s always nice when a series of books comes along to give you more insight into the beautiful way God has made each of your kids as individuals, and shows you how you might encourage them along in who they’re wired to be. As a family, we’re hoping to see more and more books in this series to add to our home library.

My daughter loves watching the TV show on Netflix and sings the songs all the time. For her 4th birthday I bought her this book and a National Geographic Science kit. It was such a hit! We read the book before bed and she is so inspired to ask questions.

As a parent, it’s a fun rhyming story so I don’t mind reading it over and over.

Just as awesome as Iggy Peck. Not as awesome as Rosie Revere. On par with Madame Chapeau. This pair can do no wrong. I love the implication that the main character may be "on the spectrum" without having to discuss it or call her out. She just is who she is and everyone is happy with that. LOVE that the main character is a little girl and she is black. I have two little boys who are white and I want them to be exposed to this example, which is much more realistic than the way that TV portrays people of color.
On a less serious note; The illustrations could not be better. Spunky style and the boys loved looking for Rosie and Iggy on some of the pages. They laughed out loud as usual and begged to read it again right away. I could not recommend it highly enough. If you havent read the others, drop what you are doing right this minute and get them.

This book is amazing!! Our family loves this whole series! Book was in excellent condition.
Also, a great series on Netflix.
Only con would be for younger kids. The story is long and wouldn’t be suitable for most 2.5 and unders.

This series of books is amazing. For a UK readership some words need ‘translating’ but that’s easily done and still keeps the rhythm. The themes of girl power, girls as scientists, resilience, hope, family and more stand out. Wonderful artwork too. My youngest has loved it since he was 4 and my eldest (9) still reads it. Totally recommended
