Because of the condescending instructions at the end on how to write a review. Laden with sentences in bold in case I wasn't smart enough to get the gist of the demands and full of phrases designed to make one feel guilty for not complying, I found it to be a real insight into the author's character.
The book was kind of fun, and the characters likable although hardly developed (but one doesn't expect much character development in this sort of book anyway) but I refused to even read the teaser for the next book in the series.
I'm afraid that I didn't 1.keep it short but I was able to 2. think of a title all by myself and 3. did not provide a "spoiler that could have ruined the story for people who haven't read the book yet, since if the author waited for half a book to share a secret, a surprise, a tidbit of history - please don't give it away in the review". Since the author said PLEASE. (yes, in all caps). There were three pages of that sort of crap.
What a super start to a new series! I love every book by Chris Keniston that I have read to date. There are many to catch up on now that I know how much I love her writing. Her relaxing style of writing is perfect for me and by that I mean they are low on angst and high on the HEA, not like some books I read that are so filled with angst and heartbreak that I finish feeling worse than before I started and it did nothing to relax me. I appreciate this because there are not many authors who write this way.
The first part of the book we are being introduced to the six brothers and one sister that this series will be focused on. This family is a great example of what all families should be like. This book focuses on Adam Farraday, the eldest son in the Farraday clan who is not only gorgeous and committed to his loving family but is a Vet as well. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that he is NOT a man-whore. Sure he's had relationships but he is not a one-night stand kind of guy. Yippee!!! He found out early in his life that he was drawn to animals who needed care and nurturing and from then on he always knew he would be a Veterinarian. There are a lot of town folk we meet and get acquainted with and really aren't small towns really about being one big extended family so to speak, where everyone knows everybody's business and they all look out for each other. If I knew of such a place I would move in a heart beat.
We have the read-headed beauty, Meg O'Brien. She found out her fiancee was a snake and ran away from him right before the start of their wedding. It is when she turns off a main road thinking she found a thoroughfare and after traveling a ways she swerves to miss a dog that ran out in front of her. She also does some serious damage to the car as she tries not to hit the dog. The only person to cross her path that early in the morning is Adam as he is driving home after attending a birth on one of the ranches. These two simply sizzle when they are near each other and sparks fly when they accidentally touch. They both knew there is something between but she doesn't trust her judgement after what she found out about the man she was about to marry and he knows she'll be going home after she gets her broken down car repaired.
Wow, what a sweet read. I enjoyed every page and can't wait to read about about the rest of the family. I highly recommend this book. I have a feeling this will be an awesome series.
