If you're looking for a good, general-purpose fitness book, this one is as good as any. The small, black-and-white photos aren't particularly clear, but they generally get the point across. However, I found it long on fitness and short on diving information. The introductory chapters begin with an overview of the physical demands placed on divers. Muscle groups and diving activities are paired based on use (e.g., shoulder muscles are useful when climbing into a Zodiac). At the end of each exercise, there's a sentence or so that lists the diving activity that will be helped by performing that exercise.
I would have liked to see a little more detailed discussion of how depth places additional stress on the cardiopulmonary system, how enriched air nitrox factors into cardiovascular performance, and how the different types of tissues (muscle, fat) absorb and desorb nitrogen at different rates.
