Recharge Your Garmin From Anywhere

Got stuck in Europe last year when our rental car cigarette lighter outlet didn't work, rendering the Garmin we were provided useless, as there was no A/C power cord included to allow us to recharge from a hotel room outlet, only the car charger cord and plug was available, and no way to use either. This has a detachable cord with a USB on one end and the Garmin plug on the other, so it would have been a lifesaver in the prior case. Perfect solution.

Only used once so far, it worked with my Garmin device. I wanted a way to power the gps outside the vehicle for trip planning. Computer USB port normally supplies 0.5amps, only puts gps in mass storage mode for map updates and viewing files. The adapter allows me to do trip planning outside the vehicle, since it has a 1.0 amp output.

Though this plugs into my Garmin it is sensed to be not Garmin preferred, sets off a chime and visual warning about the charger and shuts down much of the Garmin programs in the process.. Maybe it will be safe for something else around here as it has a common USB plug for the device and standard home outlet prongs for a power source..

All in all it does charge the Garmen 50 battery, I lowered the sound so the constant alarm or alert did not continue..
