Works well but fell apart on the first use
The very first time I used this, when I went to disconnect it after using it, it pulled apart as I was unplugging the HDMI cable from it. The cable pulled the socket and chipboard out of the adapters housing. I had to shove it all back in and tape it to keep it together but it still works. Very first use.

    Please follow the directions to plug the usb power cable into a usb power adapter that plugs into a wall outlet socket. Do not plug the usb directly into the same device/computer you're using as this will cause the screen to be jittery and unusable. I made this mistake at first and don't want someone to make the same mistake and end up returning the product because of it. The directions clearly state to plug the usb into an outlet as well.

    This device will take a VGA signal and up-convert it to HDMI. Ironically, it will NOT work with a standard 640x480 VGA signal. Input resolution must be 800x600 (SVGA) or higher. In my opinion, this is a significant limitation. However, for the resolutions it does support, it works perfectly.

    So, I learned that when it comes to technology, new/old, you have to purchase specifically for what you are trying to accomplish. And this product did exactly that. I needed to go "from VGA to HDMI", bcuz I wanted to connect my old desktop tower to my new and bigger monitor. Not realizing it only had HDMI ports and no VGA or RCA ports, for that matters. This converter was so easy to install that I installed it, before realizing I had instructions. And displays, as if I wasn't on a newer TV/monitor, meaning, it displays gr8! It displays from top to bottom of my 32" monitor and black wall, tha sides, as my old desktop display settings are also old/outdated. And I'm still pleased with how it display, considering, it wouldn't be able to display at all, without this converter. And glad this converter didn't require a power source to work. Sound also comes thru clear and louder than it did before. Which is gr8 for me, being hearing impaired. Definitely worth what I paid for it and more. Highly recommend and will buy again, if I need another converter of this nature.

    After 15 minutes of troubleshooting, I cannot recommend this product. While it is easy to use and set up (required only a restart to get all the resolutions working), it fails in its conversion. For some reason, the device squishes the picture and adds black bars to the side. While a normal user might not notice, anyone who spends a lot of time on the computer will immediately see how off the resolution seems.

    The build is...not great. The housing for the board is made of thin metal literally just slid together. I had the housing fall apart on me while trying to reseat the HDMI cable. It goes back together easily enough and isn't a device you'd be manhandling often but a couple of clips would've gone a long way.

    Picture quality is serviceable, though some apps are a little blurry. For the money, it might be worth it but I'd recommend shelling out the extra few bucks for a more solid option.

    I had doubts whether this cable would work with my video capture card, but alas I was proved wrong! Once I hooked up the VGA cable to the back of the tower and plugged the USB cable into the 3.0 jack on the back of the tower, then the HDMI cable into the HDMI input on the capture card and the USB of the capture card into the 3.0 jack on the laptop, it was smooth sailing from there and I saw the welcome screen from the tower in OBS. Great success and one I am keeping! Wonderfully made cables and great connections. Definitely served my purpose. Didn't use the audio cable as I had a mixer running through the tower anyway so that works just fine. Picture is a little small and sometimes lags, but that is ok with me for now.

    If you are looking to hook your 10 year old VGA computer to HDMI whether it's a TV, monitor, or a video capture card like me, the VGA to HDMI converter works well, just remember to plug the USB power cord into the back of the VGA computer and you're set to go! I am typing this on the VGA computer now. Thanks Onten for the great cable and Amazon for offering it. You guys are grand!
