Will certainly allow the conversion of a USA plug to a French outlet. This has two male prongs and by-passes the female prong ground sticking out of the wall outlet. This works fine. But if you plug a heavy cord into this two prong adapter you may pull it down and out of the wall outlet. For approximately the same cost, it would be better to buy a round three-prong adapter that uses the ground and holds better to the wall. Also, such a model usually allows you to plug in two USA plugs at the same time. Remember this is a plug adapter and not a voltage converter.

Confused about 16 vs. 8 amps.

I think the vendor is very confused about this product. The title and description of this product say '16 amps' but the description on the shipping documentation, and the package itself, says, '8 amps.' 8 amps is also what's stamped in the plastic housing, so that's what I'll go by. In my case, it doesn't matter, but if you were going to use this with a high current device, such as a hair dryer, it might not be adequate and might present a hazard.

Doesn't work in Italy

I bought this item to use in Venice, Florence, and Rome Italy in order to charge my iPhone and so that my wife could use her hair iron.

The adapter would not work at all in Venice or Florence as it would extend from the wall socket by about 1/8 of an inch. I ended up having to borrow an adapter from our tour guide. Funny enough, the adapter the tour guide lent me looked identical to this one except it was white in color. His adapter of course worked perfectly.

As for Rome, the adapter worked in a single socket in our hotel room that was setup to take multiple types of adapters. For all other sockets in the room I encountered the same issue, the socket would extend from the wall.

I am not sure about how this adapter will function in other parts of Europe...perhaps it will work, but then again...maybe not.

Don't bother studying the photo...

Don't bother carefully studying the product photo (like I did) because that is not exactly the adapter you will receive. However, what I got is similar to the photo, and I expect that it will perform as intended. It has two parallel, all-metal, round pins, 4.8 mm in diameter and 19 mm long. The pin spacing is 18.6 mm center to center. The body is molded black plastic. It accepts all the standard US plugs I tried, and grips them loosely to moderately. The adapter has one slot larger than the other, apparently intended to accept the wider prong of polarized US plugs. That works fine - in fact, even the smaller slot is large enough to accept the larger prongs I tried, so polarized plugs can be inserted either way. The one thing that concerns me is the pin diameter of 4.8 mm. Other adapters I own (which I have used successfully in Europe) have thinner pins of 4.0 mm. However from what I read, I expect either pin diameter to work.

very nice, but be aware that it is not grounded

Works well, but note that some outlets in France, ie. ones in kitchens or bathrooms, have three holes and are grounded. This adapter is thin enough that it still might work with grounded plugs, with questionable safety, but I had no need to try it that way. If you just need to charge your phone, kindle, or other non-grounded electronics, then it works great and it seems to be very high quality. It will still fit in a grounded outlet, it will just not be grounded, and like I mentioned it will possibly only accept non-grounded plugs. Considering the low price, it seems a much better option that one of the multi-adapters that have too many moving parts that could potentially fail in the middle of your trip.

Cheap, free shipping, and exactly what we needed. We went to Prague, Vienna, and Budapest and it worked in all 3 countries. It's a little lose so sometimes we had to wiggle before it would work, but worked for what we needed. Note: it is not a converter, but we used it for my computer (a mac that automatically switches depending on the current) and to charge the battery for our camera and it worked for both.

It will work in a European site. However the USA side will not take a polarized USA plug. It will take an Apple non-polarized plug. Not what I was looking for - not worth returning. Good quality. Good delivery. Just be sure you don't need a polarized plug.
