    Plugged this bad boy in and it worked right out of the box. Been running ZFS with it for three months straight without issue. The only gripe is like others have stated, the circuit board is paper thin. Plug in your SATA cables and the install it, and you won't have an issue.

    I didnt have to install drivers or anything to get this working under Proxmox and whatever Unraid uses. In Proxmox I was able to pass the hardware entirely to my NAS VM without issue. It worked and was solid. Unraid recognized from the start and I was able to configure it just fine.

    Its been working and rock solid for about a month now.

    Let's talk about what kind of results you can get from this device. The good news is it occupies, in general, a PCI-E x4 lane option. This is far better than cards that are PCI-E x1 trying to do SATA, as they are choked by bandwidth.

    However, the one issue I ran into, tested by creation of a ZFS pool and then drive by drive is one that is to be expected. Populate the first four SATA, and you can get generalized SATA speed you'd expect. Populate all six, and the last two are "choked" and perform at a much lower rate, about 3/4 of the first four.

    This is not a monumental issue for those just wanting to add space on a NAS where basically your speed will be enough to saturate a 2.5Gb controller, definitely a 1Gb controller. If you are connecting to your NAS by 10Gb, you may not get to full throughput (use a L2ARC on an NVME to help)

    In general, though, this is a very useful lway to turn some boards into a true NAS type solution. I had extreme doubts about this product, but was glad to be proven wrong.

    I had an extra m.2 port available, but not enough SATA ports on the motherboard. In the past I have always had an extra PCI-e slot to put in a SATA expansion card, but newer MBs don't have more than 2 PCE-e slots, so I had find another way. Installed this and it worked out of the box, no drivers needed, and the SATA drives attached run at full SATA6 speeds. I little delicate so I'd be careful plugging the SATA cable into it, but other than they it's great.

    I have 12TB drives connected and running perfect on this adapter. Drives are fast, and if there's a speed penalty I haven't noticed. The drives are spare backups and speed isn't that important to me.
