Built a new WHS 2011 box with an Asus P8H67-i mother board with single PCI-e slot, I was using an HP Microserver, but I needed more horsepower, with only one PCI-e slot reserved for my Ceton tuner, I was having to back up my server via USB 2.0, I have a this USB 2.0/Esata exclosure, http://www.amazon.com/ProBox-Drive-Enclosure-3-5-inch-drive/dp/B002UUPWP6/ref=pd_cp_e_3, instead of dropping $150 on a new external enclosure with USB 3.0, I gave this a try, it was advertised as the only USB 3.0 to Esata adapter with Port multiplication, I can confirm that it actually works, file transfers range from 60MB/s to 110MB/s depending on the file size, and using the WHS 2011 Add in, home server smart 2012, I'm even getting smart data from the drives in the enclosure. Fantastic. The card shipped from California to the east coast in 4 business days, so far so good. I'll report back if I have any issues.

Update May 6 2013
Product is still working well, this weekend, I added a USB 3.0 Hub, ne of the amazon special Anker Uspeed USB 3.0 4-Port Hub, and product works well through the hub using the hubs ac adapter, I did not try it with out the Hub's AC adapter. I use this device only to connect my Media Sonic 4 bay enclosure, to backup up my 5 plus TB's of data on my WHS 2011, which usually takes 24-36 hours, as my back up program does a crc32 check of each file on the on my server and in the backupset. Again great product.

I was having problems with the integrated ICH9 eSATA interface on my QNAP TS-659 not initializing correctly. Sometimes it wouldn't see all the drives. After switching to this USB 3.0 eSATA adapter, the drives are available instantly without any enumeration errors. I also don't get the "Plugged drive failed to work." messages in the qnap system log. The only negative effect is the system load is a little higher due to USB protocol overhead, but worth it for reliability. I was also able to inspect the linux raid0 ext4 volume with DiskInternals Linux Reader by plugging into a Windows system.

Edit: After further testing, the problem was that NCQ is automatically enabled when connected by ahci. By "echo 1 > /sys/block/<disk>/device/queue_depth" NCQ is disabled on each drive in the port multiplier. This is the default using the USB 3.0 eSATA adapter and can not be adjusted. With this configuration I was able to achieve 150MB/s to 160MB/s on the ICH9 interface and only 85 to 90MB/s on the USB 3.0 to eSATA adapter.

My previous observations regarding FIS were inaccurate, I doubt this adapter supports FIS:
The behavior of this adapter seems to indicate it supports FIS, as all the drives light up together compared to a direct connection ICH9 sata which doesn't support FIS. I spent a bit of time trying to tune the "chunk" size of the raid0 to get better performance from the ICH9, with the USB adapter tuning isn't required. A also noticed that the 4k physical block size is correctly reported via this adapter where the ahci driver only sees 512b on the ICH9 and 88SE9125 controllers.

I have a mac, and had trouble attaching my Rosewill RSV-s8 to it. There are no clear cut ways to attach it to an imac. After an hour or so with Rosewill support they guy told me "i dont know man-you are going to need a port multiplier I guess". So I found these on here. I ordered them. 1st off, Mason, who I spoke with was beyond helpful. He had Sam, the IT guy call me as well and help trouble shoot what I was doing. There was a firmware issue that I read about in other posts and they explained to me what the deal was, and made sure I got what I needed. I literally hooked these to the esata drives and right into my computer (dont try to hook it to a network usb hub-Sam told me a usb hub cant read a port multiplier), and BOOM, had all I needed. Id definitely recommend this product to anyone who has a Mac and wants to expand their storage capacity with a very inexpensive device.

I had purchased a 4-bay drive enclosure with USB3 and, like many others purchasing similar units, they all seem to have sporadic USB3 disconnects regardless of OS (I use a Mac) - I personally think the USB3 standard should have been taken for a test drive around the track a few more times, but that's not to debate here. This item seemed like the perfect fit - convert the troublesome USB3 to the eSATA connection on the box.

Despite the claims on the website, the one I purchased did not come with the latest firmware, causing one drive out of 4 the show up. I flashed it with the latest that resolved that issue. However, included with the unit is a note that if you use a Mac, you need to download someone else's free software to keep the external drives from going to sleep. Software which won't work with the latest Mac OS. You can hardly claim OS X compatibility if you have to use what is essentially a hack to get your product to work. Include a driver/utility of your own that you support and maintain.

Speaking of support, emails to the company, before I returned this item, went unanswered.
