-Arrow keys and Insert/Edit/Delete/End/PageUp/PageDown keys are all in their original respective order to keyboard design! Many new ergonomic split keyboards (such as Microsoft's) have these specific keys configured differently. I've used those keyboards and it becomes frustrating with their new placement of some keys
-Requires relatively good hand position to operate.
-No adjustable feet. However 90% of people like the feet on a typical keyboard extended to provide a slight incline of the keyboard itself. This keyboard is already designed with a slight tilt so feet on this keyboard would be overkill.
-Because there are no feet and the keyboard design is already tilted, there is no way to achieve a FLAT keyboard like you can with most keyboards.
-Keyboard's natural angle is a little high but it becomes manageable; I lift my wrists and forearms up a little higher to get the right position.
-Takes some getting used to
-Space bar is split rather than having one large space bar curved with the board. This is very rarely an issue and I don't often press the area in between each space bar but it was annoying at first.
-Best results if you can re-train yourself how to type using the CORRECT hand position
-This is not a loud keyboard when pressing the keys, but it's not a quiet keyboard either. Personally I love a louder keyboard. It reminds me of when PC's first starting getting mainstream; the keyboards were clanky and loud so when you type 80-90 words per minute it sounds intense, like you're a machine cranking out product! :)
The best natural position for typing is having your pinky fingers in a straight line from your forearm down to the pinky tip. If you find yourself extending your pinky outward beyond parallel you will eventually feel strain on the outside of your wrist. When people have aches in their wrists while typing it's because their wrists are set crooked. Most people leave the underside of the wrists resting on a desk or gel pad while tilting or angling the wrist to reach certain letters. This will only cause more harm than good by resting your wrist's because nerves and tendons that work your hands get pinched causing blood circulation strain. Do a bit of research on proper hand positions and you can do yourself the favor by training yourself to follow better positioning. It will make your hands and wrists feel MUCH better in everyday activity. Computers are a tool that sincerely promote tendonitis or arthritis in the hands. Also take in to account the way your wrists are positioned when you drive a vehicle. If you feel strain, try different positions to see what's more comfortable. You may find that re-positioning them in a different location + tilting or slightly turning the wrist provides more of a natural feel; closer to comfort. Over the long term it is best to be conscious and listen to what your body says. If something aches or throbs it's your body's language of speaking "something's not right"... So fix it! :)
1st UPDATE: 7/13/12 (This keyboard has greatly improved my typing form and I now rarely have pains in my wrists and fingers from typing.)
2nd UPDATE: 12/12/12 (I've noticed I occasionally fall back into old typing form where I position my wrists poorly, but this keyboard still helps) After time the backspace key has to be hit dead center on mine otherwise it won't work. Almost like it sticks. A further look removing the key itself indicates that's where the button is; versus having two buttons under it like you would for a space bar to engage more easily. No biggie, though.
3rd UPDATE) 4/24/14 (I LOVE THIS KEYBOARD!!!!! All keys continue to work well. This keyboard is also really easy to disassemble for cleaning!)
4th UPDATES) 5/3/17 I am still using this keyboard and I do indeed still love it :) cheers!
I noticed some people had issues with the letters rubbing off. I have very long nails and use the tips to type so I do not have that issue. I've been using mine for a few months and other than a little dust it still looks like new. :)
If you want an ergonomic keyboard, don't get this one. Go somewhere you can try out keyboards, so you don't get stuck with one like this.
I originally purchased this line of keyboards many years ago because of arthritis in my hands and right arm -- the pain was excruciating and debilitating. The first time I used this (many years ago), I truly despised it and quickly put it back in the box and in my cupboard. However, the pain in my hands did not go away, so I eventually had to pull the keyboard back out and try again. After adjusting to the tilt and set-up of the keyboard itself, along with the new location of the mouse, this has become a lifesaver. Many people will not use this keyboard because of the amount of time it takes to unlearn and relearn; however, it is an incredible relief to 1. not feel the pain in my index finger from using an external mouse, 2. not have to move my arm around to grab the mouse or jump from keyboard to mouse, and 3. be able to lightly tap on the integrated mouse.
Yes, I'm gushing. But, everything about this specific style of keyboard has saved my health and my job. When it works, it works wonderfully.(The previous one I purchased had a SERIOUS malfunction). Set-up is easy (plug-and-play). I seriously do not understand why anyone would want to use a traditional keyboard and mouse.
