Top customer reviews
Like almost all wireless keyboards, setup was very easy. I simply installed the batteries, plugged the USB wireless adapter, and it did its own thing. It was up and running in about 10 seconds.
The size and look of the keyboard are AWESOME! Exactly the same width and weight as a standard keyboard but thinner and you have the mouse added. Other wireless combo keyboards (wireless keyboard, mouse pad, and 10key setup) in the same price range were much more bulky. It's got a nice gloss black finish with chrome trimming, the classic combo.
What I'm noticing, as I type this, is the backspace button has a little "play" on it so when you strike/press it, it makes a loose clanking sound. The other buttons are quiet and no abnormal sounds. Regardless, the buttons are very reactive. The "Fn" (function) buttons all work well and are very reactive as well.
The mouse speed had to be readjusted to the fastest setting so that I didn't have to keep lifting my finger to make it from one side of the screen to the other. The adjustment did help but I wish I could get further across with the one swipe. The pointer is precise and moves well with my movement. I did try another keyboard with the same setup (wireless keyboard, mouse pad, and 10key setup) and found that the pointer would flicker across the screen and would make it difficult for precise pointer placement to small buttons or check boxes. The mouse pad scroll works well too. It does not give you the expand screen swipe option (similar to smart phone touch screens) but you can still press the ctrl button and use the scroll option to expand/decrease the screen.
The range of the keyboard is fair. I use the keyboard approximately 10 feet away from the computer and I don't have any issues; however, I found the range to be about 15ft with the wireless adapter installed on the back of the computer and not the advertised 30 ft (this was the same with the other keyboard I tried). I'm sure I'd get more range if I would switch the adapter to the front of the computer but that's not what I like.
The one thing I am concerned with is the fact that this keyboard only takes two AAA batteries so I'm assuming the battery life may not be all that great, especially since both the mouse and the keyboard are using the same set of batteries. I will definitely keep an eye on this and will provide an update in a month or so.
Overall, a GREAT keyboard for the money and couldn't be happier with this purchase.
I hope this review helps.
The key action is ok, nothing to write home about. It's average as far as that goes.
I don't know what this keyboard does that allows it to burn through batteries, but I would recommend buying a good cache of rechargeable batteries, because I go through them at a rate of a pair of AAA every few weeks. I use rechargeable batteries, and they're the best on the market (Eneloop). This keyboard does not use Bluetooth Low Energy (v4 and above), although to its credit that protocol wasn't being widely used at the time this Adesso was being designed. Considering the power consumption rate of this keyboard, it is completely beyond me as to why they didn't use AA batteries as opposed to AAA.
Pairing the Adesso with the system where the dongle is plugged in is puzzling . I have other wireless keyboards, and I don't have to go through the process of turning them off/on then hitting a 'connect' button as is required with the Adesso. I found the Adesso was dropping its connection to the computer while I was writing this review, and have now officially disconnected it. The considerably older Logitech wireless keyboard I'm now using connected automatically. This Logitech NEVER drops its connection, either. It's a mini-keyboard, however, can't use all the time.
The Adesso also needs direct line of sight to its USB dongle. My keyboard is roughly five feet from its dongle, and if there is anything between the two, it drops the connection. It's been getting worse lately, to the point of which even if there is nothing between it and the computer it still randomly drops the connection. I replace batteries, resync the connection and it might work for a while.
I wouldn't recommend this keyboard at all. I used it for three frustrating years, and feel it barely functioned as it should.
I'll be ordering a new keyboard today.
(1) Does the job. Good, responsive keys. Signal strength has never been an issue.
(2) Wish it had dedicated power keys for things like volume, browser, etc., rather than using Function keys.
(3) Touchpad is hinky. Sometimes too sensitive, sometimes wholly unresponsive (requiring turning off and back on). Doesn't appear that touchpad sensitivity can be changed.
(4) Use the on/off switch. This thing devours AAA batteries.
