"Adivinanzas Mexicanas: See Tosaasaaniltsin, See Tosaasaaniltsin" is not a normal book. It is neither a simple collection of riddles, nor just a pretty picture book for children. It has more to offer than just pretty pictures or plain text. It is a multilingual and colourful piece of culture that accentuates the beauty and poetry of every language presented. Since riddles and guessing games have always been part of the everyday life in Nahua communities this practice has a long tradition and always delighted young and old alike. The riddles are in Spanish, Catalan, English, the Nahuatl of Oapan, Guerrero, where the culture and the language are still vital, and the Nahuatl of Tlaxcala, where the language already is in danger of extinction. Therefore the book also demonstrates the linguistic diversity of Mexico through the varieties within the Nahuatl language itself, due to the fact that there exist many Nahuatl varieties that might even be thought of as separate languages. As well considering the influence this widespread language always on Mexican Spanish, the reader will recognize that some words in this book are witnesses of this history. Each page of the book is dedicated to a single riddle in all of the abovementioned languages and accompanied by colourful designs, which originally are amate paintings by Cleofas Ramírez Celestino, who did not only provide the artwork for this book, but also transcribed and translated the Nahuatl riddles since she herself is a native speaker. The Adivinanzas Mexicanas are the product of a collaboration between several speakers of different languages, made by them with true passion and creativity. Due to many details, in this book you will always have something new to discover. Ultimately, after some guessing fun, for those interested in further information some explanatory notes about the Nahuatl language and the making of the book are provided in a separate final part of the book.
