This is a nice little flashlight, especially for the price. It is quite bright, and would be great for throwing in a vehicle or a backpack. Personally, I bought it for work because the flashlight they have me for checking the inside of chemical reactors is crap. The price was right for something that I won't be to disappointed if I drop, lose, or someone swipes.
Edit 6-19-15. After only three days of light use, the flashlight won't turn on. I tried changing the batteries, but that didn't do anything. Fortunately I was able to stop what I was doing and got another flashlight. I'm all right with a cheap flashlight, but it really needs to last longer then three days.

Inside lens came loose after about 5 minutes of use, and the light stopped working all together after about a half hour of use.

I have a problem with buying flashlights under $15 and trying to find the brightest ones. Saying that is the first step to recovery. This is one of my favorites that I have bought so far because it is really bright and well constructed. In fact it is brighter than my Cree 501B that advertises at 900 lumens. Do yourself a favor and buy this one if you are looking for a high quality inexpensive flashlight.

This worked fine the first day I received it. I bought it to keep in my glove compartment. I kept it there for about eight months, then pulled it out to use it. Dead. Not a battery issue. Just dead. Useless, but too late to return it.

I bought three flashlights, all priced at less than $10 and compared them. I'm going to keep them all but I can't help but notice the substantial differences. The other two flashlights were...

Mini Cree (about $5) - UltraFire 7w 300lm Mini Cree Led Flashlight Torch Adjustable Focus Zoom Light Lamp
Ultra Fire CREE (about $8) - UltraFire CREE XML T6 LED Flashlight 5 Mode Zoomable Torch (Flashlight ONLY)

Batteries:
The batteries I use are standard rechargeable batteries. I'm not about to buy special batteries for a flashlight.
The Mini Cree uses a single AA battery.
The Lighting Ever and the Ultra Fire both use AAA batteries.

Size:
Mini Cree: About 3.5" long x 1" diameter
Lighting Ever: About 4.25" long x 1.33" diameter
Ultra Fire: About 6" long x 1.5" diameter

> The Ultra Fire Cree was the brightest of the three when zoomed "out".
> The Ultra Fire Cree covered the widest area when zoomed out..
> The Ultra Fire Cree had a more defined and crisp edge to its light.
> The Ultra Fire Cree was about 2 inched longer than the Lighting Ever.
> The Lighting Ever was brightest when the flashlight was zoomed "in".
> The Mini Cree was bested by the other two flashlight in every way except for its small size.

If size is not an issue, and if you would like a wider area covered with light, I would choose the Ultra Fire.
If you want the brightest light possible and don't need to flood a large area with light, I would choose the Lighting Ever.
If you need a small flashlight, and can sacrifice brightness and wide coverage, I would choose the mini cree.

I bought this flashlight for my camping trip.
When it arrived, i immediately put the battery that was delivered with it and clicked to check the light. The LED would not come on. Thinking it was a bad battery, i tried with my own battery but it was still no good.
Instead, i noticed the battery pack was getting a bit warm. I left it at my carpet, and few minutes later, i picked up the flashlight and realized how hot it was. I immediately removed the cover and took the batteries out. There was smoke inside the flashlight. If i had left any longer, it could have started fire in my apartment......

I've got about a dozen LED flashlights - most bought that way and some are retrofits (a Maglite, a Rayovac, and a 1st gen SnakeLight). They vary in brightness from 30 or so lumens up to 800 lumens. My favorite is my EDC (every day carry) Mini MLR2 that's 1/2 inch shorter than my chapstick and has 7 settings, including a high setting of 180 lumens. I'm currently jonesin' for a $120 L3 K40 with 1147 lumens and 700 meter beam distance - that thing is FRIGGIN' AWESOME! Now, I'm no flashaholic . . . ok - scratch that. I guess my point is that even though I didn't need this little adjustable focus, 3 aaa, cree led flashlight, and it doesn't do everything the description says it would do, and it has middle of the road brightness (compared to other led lights), I STILL love it. Just like a $3 bottle of Oak Leaf Pinot Grigio from Walmart, for $9.90 this flashlight was nearly guaranteed to please. Admittedly, as long as it didn't short-circuit and cook my fingers like grilled kielbasa, I was probably going to like it. Using only 3 aaa batteries, this thing throws a beam that will make you wonder why you'd want any flashlight that's more powerful (trust me - you will). It will also zoom out and cast a flood that's very impressive. What it DOESN'T do is strobe or change brightness, even though the description says it will. You know what? I'm giving it 5 stars anyway. I do recommend taking it apart and using some di-electric grease (silicone lubricant) on the rubber o-ring where the head slides to zoom in and out. Doing this will make it easier to work the zoom. Go ahead and put some on the threads, too. Bottom line? If you haven't seen what they're doing with flashlights these days, you will absolutely be amazed by this purchase.Read more ›
