5.0 out of 5 starsThe best stand for iPhone 4 or iPod touch
Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2010
I have taken a look at most iPhone stands listed in Amazon. Most of them are very fragile (made by thin plastic) and do not provide enough stability (usually have very small base). The good part of those stands is that they are very portable for travel use. However, they are often overpriced and range from $8 to $25.

This stand is the opposite of all the above. For $11 (including shipping), it actually contains an iPhone-to-tripod adapter and a mini tripod. It is very sturdy and 100% adjustable. You can place your iPhone and iPod in any angle you like and it always remain stable (especially in the portrait mode). This is especially critical when you are doing face time with your friends and family since you want to properly face the camera.

The adapter is made of plastic, and the middle part works like a clamp that securely fastens your iPhone. The side bracket is just to protect the phone from falling off the bracket by accident. So far I only use it for 1 day, and cannot comment on the durability.

The tripod is very basic. But you can always use your own tripod with the included adapter.

The only drawback is that it is not as small as the other tiny stands. However, it can easily fit any hand bag or carry-on luggage without any problem. However, I will trade off some portability for the build quality and its full adjustability.

3.0 out of 5 starsIt's not that great
Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2014
I've always needed a tripod to record my drawing videos. So I decided to get one. Just keep in mind when getting this that it doesn't fit all phones. It probably won't even fit the new iPhone 6 and 6+ now that they decided to make their phones bigger.

I have the HTC One m7 and this doesn't fit this phone. When pulling the holder up it snapped off now the food thing is that you can just put it back on and it will work just as good, but you won't be able to guarantee that your phone won't fall.

Other than that it's an okay phone tripod holder. I also just discovered about a month ago that the bottom of the tripod stand pulls out so it can be bigger. That was another one of my issues before because I needed something big to record a big area, but that issue is resolved.

So if you're interested in a decent cheap tripod holder for your phone than you should get it. Just keep in mind that it won't fit large phones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheaply made, but good for the price!

First off, my tripod broke a little bit like a week after I got it, not necessarily because of a manufacture issue, but because when you put your phone in on the tripod the top part is attached to a spring, that spring can only move so far before it will snap off. I put a Galaxy in this tripod and that spring broke off. Luckily my phone is smaller than that Galaxy, so I just taped that top clip piece back on to the measurements of my phone and it works good as new!

Using a tripod helps the focus of your pictures soooooo much, plus having the ability to set your phone or ipod down to take a picture is really nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works with a case!
Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2011

This product works really well. The tripod is pretty crappy but you aren't buying this for the tripod, you are buying this because it will fit your fat phone in a case.

For me that is the iPhone 4 with a Speck case. Most of the iPhone holders wont hold the iPhone with a case, which is a waste because everyone has a case on their phone. The iPhone 4 with the case fits very, very snugly. As in 1-2mm thicker and it probably wouldn't fit. This works pretty well as it creates a very tight and secure fit.

It only really goes in one way, and that is with the home button to the left. Other wise the volume buttons get pressed and that craps everything up.

The tripod and ball head it comes with are not really that awesome but it is mostly the tripod's fault. The legs on the tripod don't open up enough to make it super stable. It wont fall over on a table made of stone, but if it gets bumped it will topple over. If you are a bit crafty you can unscrew the phillips head screw on between the legs and add a washer between where leg bracket and the ball mount. This will allow the legs to sit down a bit more allowing them to open up a bit more making the tripod a little more stable.

Even know it helps the legs spread out more, you wont be able to orient like they show in the photo with the iPhone on the side. The iPhone is to heavy and it will just tip over.

This unit also helps as a stabilizer. Just holding the legs in the closed position make it more stable to move about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice for landscape orientation, or with different tripod for portrait orientation
Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2011
Verified Purchase
Nice mini-tripod; but, as I suspected by looking at the pictures before I ordered it, it is not suitable for holding the cell phone in portrait orientation because it is off-balance with the phone hanging from the side. It will fall over with my iPhone4 in portrait mode. For landscape orientation, with the phone directly above the tripod, it is fine.

The clamp arm that goes across the width of the phone is spring-loaded and expands from 46 mm to 60 mm (1 13/16 in to 2 3/8 in). This easily fits an iPhone 4 without a case, which is 58 mm wide. With my case, the iPhone is 61 mm wide, so it is a squeeze on the case and on the rubber pads at both sides of the clamp with the case on; I will be taking the case off when I use this. The long dimension of the holder, which is not critical since the phone can stick out the open end, goes from 72 mm to 87 mm (2 7/8 in to 3 1/2 in). The minimum distance between the end of the holder and the clamp is 46 mm (1 7/8 in) The legs extend from 4 1/4 in to 6 5/8 in, but even fully extended, with the wider support base that provides, the tripod will tip over with the phone off to the side in portrait orientation.

The legs are oriented so that when the holder is in portrait orientation, the holder hangs between two of the legs. I loosened the screw holding the legs and rotated them so the holder was above one leg to try to make portrait orientation stable. Then the holder bumps into the leg and cannot go fully portrait, so I rotated the legs until the holder in portrait orientation could just fit next to a leg. This was stable, but just barely so, and it would not take much shaking to have it fall over, so I put the legs back to the original position and will not use this tripod for portrait orientation.

The packaging the tripod came in says this is model S2120W and there is also a picture of a model S2135W that has legs that spread much wider, but it looks like those legs are shorter, so that tripod may have the same instability problem for portrait orientation.

The camera holder is attached to the tripod by a standard camera tripod 1/4-20 screw. The screw is only long enough to engage a little less than 1 1/4 threads of the screw into the camera holder, which is probably adequate for such lightweight use here, but the camera holder is thick enough that they could have used a longer screw. This screw cannot be changed because it is part of the ball-joint, but it would be possible to thin down the tightening disk on the screw. That disk is 1/4 inch thick, so 1/16 in could be taken off it, which would expose more of the screw thread, allowing 2 1/2 threads into the holder.

As long as you only want to use this for landscape orientation, this tripod should do fine.
Or if you want to use the camera holder with a different tripod that has a wider support base, then you can use it for portrait orientation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neat Little Gadget: Cellphone Camera Tripod
Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2011

Boy, ain't technology something!

I downloaded this camera app for my HTC Incredible and it has all these features - like timers (plural!). So I figured somebody must make a tripod to take advantage of such features. A search revealed that to be true - and I ordered this product in anticipation of using it during bicycle touring for those "me-Al-Franken" moments of vanity on the rides.

It came very quickly, seems well made and cleverly designed. No interference w/ the lens (okay, that's easy to plan for; the lens is tiny), while affording a full view from the flip side of the phone/camera. The legs are adjustable. The clamp system is easy to manipulate and it seems made for the Incredible. The legs are adjustable and the camera can tilt, thanks to a ball socket atop the legs. It's compact and light and just what I need.

One note: initially I had it in the clamp, inadvertently pressing a side button. I knew this because it triggered an app feature where "buddies" - pictures of the Queen, Obama, a pirate, and a couple women celebs - kept popping, one after the other, into the viewfinder/screen. A quick adjustment relieved the pressure on the button and the buddies went to sleep.

1.0 out of 5 stars POOR SELLER DONT WASTE YOUR TIME

I received this in the mail and was exited to get to use it to hold my android phone on top of my video camera as a teleprompter. but the top finger that is suppose to hold the phone was broken (not spring loaded) so it would not hold the phone tight. and it would just fall out. so I contacted the seller through amazon. they wrote me back asking for photo's of the product which I supplied to them. after going through all this they told me to contact amazon since it was fulfilled by them. (why did you waste my time if you wasnt going to help me) of course amazon says they cant replace it because it is sold by a third party. so here I am with a broken item and no one wants to take responsibility. VERY UNHAPPY with this seller and amazon.com. I have purchased hundreds of dollars worth of stuff this month alone, never a problem till now. makes me wonder about continuing any ordering on amazon. this is only a 12 buck item. what if it were a 140 buck tripod (hope I didnt just jinx the one im waiting on from amazon). just dont trust this seller or amazon anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works very good w/ iPhone 4, especially considering the price

The fit is great with a bare iPhone. It seems like a very good bargain - have only worked with it for one day. It feels like a good, strong spring that clamps the width of the phone and an adjustable slider for the length. Thickness seems like it would make a good fit with thicker phones.

Works great with Apps that use Time Lapse and Slow Shutter.

It won't stand up when used vertically, like one of the example photos. It keeps falling over. It comes with a good enough tripod for horizontal shots, but like someone else wrote, the tripod is easily replaced with whatever favorite you want that uses this standard screw size.

All in all, a very good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the money

After reading very mixed reviews I thought I would add my views. To address the comments about the spring etc. I found that if you don't try and pull the spring all the way up and then try and slide the phone in from the side, but instead, use the phone itself to open the spring by putting what will be the top (right side of the iPhone) in first at an angle so the top points away from you, and then use the phone to push the spring up and then snap the bottom (left side of the iPhone) into place when the spring is up far enough you are not putting too much stress on the spring. Doing it this way held my iPhone 4S snugly in place. I should point out my iPhone is in a Mophie case so there is plenty of room for a smaller case or no case.
The quality of the included tripod is about on a par with other inexpensive pocket tripods and has the same issues as any other small tripod. The ballhead is not able to tighten as much as I would like and the collar doesn't swivel like on a more expensive ballhead. So the comments about the portrait position being less than ideal are all valid. But for the price you can't really complain. I am sure I am not the only person who bought this for the clamp, not the tripod. I have tried other clamps/tripod adapters and this holds the iPhone the most securely. If you are looking for something that you will use every day then I would suggest spending more money for something that is more rugged. But for the occasional use then this is a good deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars cute, functional, works pretty well

This holder/stand works with both the iPhone (4G) and iPod touch (4G). The clamp that grips your mobile device is pretty tight. In fact, I think it's a bit too tight (too much tension on the spring). It's actually not easy to get things in and out. Reason for 4 rather than 5)

But aside from this minor issue, everything else works pretty well. As you can see from the picture, there's a butterfly screw that you use to lock in the arm's position. With this, I'm able to lock the phone in a lot of different ways/angles and it works fairly well (not perfectly tight but pretty good). This is good because maybe the stand is too tall so you need the phone to point down or the stand is too short so you need the phone to point up. Each of the arms have extension poles. But the poles work on friction so you can really only get 2 positions with confidence (all the way in or all the way out). Still, this is pretty cool because the stand can fold away to some extent (pun intended). The legs spread out so that you can hold the iPhone to the side (as in the picture). But the legs can also come in if you don't want them to take up that much real estate. But they do need to be fully extended for the side position.

I think this would make a great "gag" gift for someone who might be into photography and has a small device like the iPhone or iPod.
