As for the vest: It's fine, if quite bulky. Up to 40 extra pounds to ramp up the intensity of every activity. I've used them during squats, cardio training on my elliptical or treadmill, or during other standing or even seated weight training exercises in which the extra bulk doesn't impede or restrict movement or comfort. No real complaints functionally. I read a view comments about an odor the new vest emits. I'd say there is one, but I don't find it particularly objectionable. I haven't taken it through a laundry cycle yet to see what neutralizing effect that has. The "weights" themselves appear to be cylinders of a finely grained sand, fairly easily removable to reduce the burden, though you have to be careful to maintain the balance of the vest. The velcro straps hold it firmly in place, even while jogging (treadmill).
My other concern is a bit sensitive and personal, and I'm interested to see if these editors allow it. I only mention it because I want to be thorough with this review, and I feel it's something worth pointing out.
I ordered the camouflage coloring, and when I put it on and looked at myself in the mirror before going out for a run, I have to say that it could look a bit (to the untrained eye) like I'm wearing a flak jacket or bomb vest. I may be overly sensitive here, but that doesn't seem like a very good look to be sporting these days. I think the vest also comes in black, but I'm not sure that would address my concern. Again, I may be alone in my thinking here, and you can do with this what you will. But I thought it worth mentioning. So I haven't actually gone outside running with it yet.
All-in-all, these issues aside, I'm not displeased with the purchase. It does what I bought it to do, and it seems built to last.
I like the fact that the sand bags are separated into 4 lbs. I can place them in any combination and still stay balanced.
Only issue I found with this adjustable weight vest is that there is no padding at all. I am a very skinny and athletic guy and the sand bags which are shaped in solid rectangular blocks dig into my ribs. To fix this issue I ended up cutting a shirt into pieces and wrapping each 4 lb block with my shirt. This softened the contact with my ribs.
I recently purchased the velcro shoulder pads since there is no padding and the vest rubs/irritates the shoulders.
Other than the fact that this weight vest needs some kind of padding, the overall usage of the weight vest is perfect. I have ran and hiked with it on and it is doing what it is supposed to for my cardio/weight training.
