Format: Paperback
As photographers who do image post-processing in Adobe Lightroom (LR) soon learn, while that program does many essential jobs, the adjustment brush is a poor tool for local adjustments. Add to that the fact that LR doesn't provide for more sophisticated techniques like High Dynamic Range processing and panorama stitching and it's easy to see why some photographers turn to the more sophisticated Photoshop (PS) software to accomplish these tasks. This book concentrates on how to pass images back and forth between the two image processing programs, and make the best use of the tools that each provides. The LR/PS option has become even more attractive since Adobe adopted the Creative Cloud Photography Plan that leases both pieces of software for just $9.99 a month.

The book begins by telling the reader how to set up LR and PS for the easiest integration of the two programs. Next the author tells us his preferred workflow to move an image between LR and PS, including a review of the options available. A discussion of using the Library Module of LR to organize one's images follows and then a lesson in actually processing an image in LR is next. The fifth chapter deals with sending an image from LR to Photoshop to make a combined photo and the next with sending an image to Photoshop for selecting and masking. The last chapters show how to do retouching in Photoshop, including use of features like content-aware move and fill, liquefy, and other special effects and then using text and special effects. No modules of LR are covered other than the Library and Develop modules.

The book's main pedagogical tool is a series of images that one can download from the publisher's website and incorporate into a LR catalog for a series of hands-on tutorials.

This is a very good book to study the action between Lightroom and Photoshop. It does require much study and repeating some
chapters to get it all straight. This is not a problem with the book, these are complicated programs which require more than just a
little use and working with a great many pictures to get it down to a reliable work flow that will enable you to consistently turn out
pictures you will be proud of.

For any photographer beginning use of the interface between Lightroom 5 and Photochop CC this is an entry point. At the same time, it will be veryhelpful to have some familiarity with the interface and image editing functions of both programs. The book does not replace the extensive manuals each application.

This Photoshop Elements/Lightroom Classroom in a Book is the exact type of training I have been hoping would become available. Even as a hobbyist, my limited experience working with the Elements Organizer was very confusing, disappointing, and fell short of the Adobe Lightroom Photo management system for organizing my photos. I now have the use of the best of both Adobe Photo systems for my use as a hobbyist, the Elements Editor, which has great photo editing that is less complex and the Lightroom expert photo storage system. Thank you Adobe.

I have been looking for a book that includes both Photoshop and Lightroom, but they are usually either or. So far this book has really helped me understand how the two interact. It was definitely worth getting.

I agree with others who say that this book/class must be assuming that the reader already know these two programs because it frequently asks you to select or click on something that it has not yet told you what the button looks like or where it is located -- wasted hours hunting for a variety of things that were sprung on the reader with no guidance. Also, after many of the lessons, I felt like I'd just been led by the hand (select this, click on that, etc.) through a recipe with little or no discussion of what I was doing or why I was doing it. I still don't know why I did what I did or when to apply it to my own photos. Basically good, but need s a LOT more work if it is to truly accomplish its purpose for the beginner.

UPDATE: Upon further reflection, I'd like to change my review to two stars, at most, or perhaps more suitably only one star. This instructional book is really not worth your time plowing through it unless you are already quite familiar with both Lightroom and Photoshop -- especially Photoshop -- not to mention all the frustrating time spent frequently paging back and forth trying to find where some new "button" or terminology that was just sprung on you was already introduced, when it actually hadn't already been introduced yet or located for you. I have since found a number of other instructional sources (including Adobe's free on-line video tutorials) that actually DO tell you in the beginning what the controls are and where they are located before talking about them in the course of performing some complex operation. This book is a great concept poorly executed -- please completely revise and revamp it if you intend it to be for the beginner or those with little previous familiarity with the programs.

This book gave me a good start and serves as a useful reference. The style is easy to understand, and the book is organized for easy use. A few explanations seem puzzling at first, but all are understandable with a little thought and cross-reference. Good examples are provided for step-by-step clarification. Overall: excellent.
