Although this tutorial is accurate and comprehensive, I don't care for its teaching philosophy. Before even getting to the first module in Lightroom, you spend 1-2 hours learning how to deactivate or hide every component of the user interface (panels, menus, film strip, tool bar, etc.). It even plods you through "re-skinning" the user interface with your own logo!

While interesting and useful to experienced users, I found the slow pace and treatment of such a large number of non-essential details to be discouraging. I wanted to start using the software with my own photos after a couple of hours of investment! Instead, I hadn't event gotten to the "Importing" tutorial.

What I've found to be far better are the Adobe-produced Lightroom 4 videos on the "Adobe TV" web site and "AdobeLightroom" on YouTube (they seem to have the same videos). I highly recommend these.

I didn't know I could like a "course in a book" book so much. The way they did the "quick tour" that got you moving around and even editing photos right away was brilliant. Too many course books dive into the boring stuff to get it out of the way, but I liked the "highlights" and then drill down.

I'm 60% through the book and VERY pleased with it so far. It has great hands-on approach.. walking you through everything.

Highly recommended. I feel like a Lightroom Power User already.

The book offers a lot of details on the Library funtion, but just glosses over some of the most important features and aspects of the Develop Module. As an example; it has 3 plus chapters devoted to Libaries, etc. That is nice but, it has approximatley 1/2 a chapter devoted to how to ues the Develop module to improve your photos. It has one page devoted to the "brush" tool, and describes only one aspect of the tool.

If your really want to learn how to make your photos better, espeically if you are shooting RAW, there are better choices on the market.

I have usually had good luck with Adobe Classroom in a Book, but this one was a sad disappointment.

I find this book helpful, in getting up to speed on the capabilities of Lightroom 4. I wish that software providers of software would get back to providing books, on how to use their applications like they did in the past. I am using Lightroom 4 in my photographer business along with Photoshop CS6. With each application, I find it necessary to have a couple different books on the application, in order to learn all the features of the application. This book alone with Scott Kelby's book "Lightroom 4 for Digital Photographers" provide a good references to learning Lightroom 4. I would recommond this book as a supplement to your documentation on this product. I have not found one book that covers the product, in enough detail to be able to use Lightroom 4.

I concur with the other three star (John Busco) review. I am a first time Lightroom 4 user and find this book a very tough read. While well organized, a new user will get bogged down in its minutiae. You would think that the Adobe team, who produced the most excellent Lightroom 4 software, would be in tune with how to introduce and teach this software to new users. If you thought this, as I did, then you thought wrong. How about a simplified guide, at least in the initial chapters, to the most useful and most commonly used features of Lightroom 4? How about help in creating a simplified workflow, from importing to organizing to editing to publishing (print, publish online, book slideshow)? You will find nothing of the sort here. Many useful tidbits of information, but no coherent workflow consisting of the most commonly used features is to be found. This work is a major disappointment. The writer(s) may have expert level knowledge, but the are clueless on how to package the material and teach it to new users. A second critique would be that with each update (1,2,3,4 and decimal variations thereof), the software has become bloated, apparently in an effect to present more "features" and attract new and old buyers alike. The unfortunate byproduct is that the software is unnecessarily complicated, with the result that the most useful and most commonly used features are lost among the many new and marginal features.

Not much to say except that it does and is what it's suppose to do and be, a perfect and complete handbook and manual for Lightroom 4 for windows and Mac OS. Easy to search, read, and understand. What's to dislike.

I am a fan of the classroom in a book series. I have used the Premiere Pro and After Effects books previously and was very impressed with how well thought out lessons were and how informational the book was. Those two books however served as a starting point for someone who knew nothing about the programs they intended to teach. With this book purchase, I was already a user of Lightroom for quite some time, and familiar with RAW processing using Lightroom as I had done it quite regularly. I was surprised then by how much I was able to learn from the book. Information about processing the photos was not quite as helpful as I already was familiar with the processes, but the efficiency I gained, and the organizational skills I learned from the book transformed how I edit photos in a very positive way.
