Key Features

Advanced Healing Brush — Make your images spotless with a single brush stroke. Adjust the size of the brush and move it in precise paths. Unwanted objects and flaws — even those with irregular shapes like threads — just disappear.

Upright — Straighten tilted images with a single click. The Upright tool analyzes images and detects skewed horizontal and vertical lines, even straightening shots where the horizon is hidden.

Radial Gradient — Emphasize important parts of your image with more flexibility and control. The Radial Gradient tool lets you create off-center vignette effects, or multiple vignetted areas within a single image.

Smart Previews — Easily work with images without bringing your entire library with you. Just generate smaller stand-in files called Smart Previews. Make adjustments or metadata additions to the Smart Previews and apply your changes to the full-size originals later.

Video slide shows — Easily share your work in elegant video slide shows. Combine still images, video clips, and music in creative HD videos that can be viewed on almost any computer or device.

Improved photo book creation — Create beautiful photo books from your images. Lightroom includes a variety of easy-to-use book templates, and now you can edit them to create a customized look. Upload your book for printing with just a few clicks.

Location-based organization — Find, group, and tag images by location, or plot a photo journey. Automatically display location data from GPS-enabled cameras and camera phones.

Fast cross-platform performance — Speed up day-to-day imaging tasks and process images faster with cross-platform 64-bit support for the latest Mac OS and Windows operating systems.

Tight Photoshop integration — Select one or multiple photos and automatically open them in Photoshop to perform detailed, pixel-level editing. See your results immediately back in Lightroom.

Highlight and shadow recovery — Bring out all the detail that your camera captures in dark shadows and bright highlights. Now you have more power than ever before to create great images in challenging light.

Selective adjustment brushes — Expand your creative control with flexible brushes that let you adjust targeted areas of your photo for just the look you want. Selectively adjust brightness, contrast, white balance, sharpness, noise reduction, moiré removal, and much more.

Superior noise reduction — Get amazing, natural-looking results from your high ISO images with state-of-the-art noise reduction technology. Apply noise reduction to the entire image or target specific areas.

Nondestructive environment — Set your creativity free in a nondestructive editing environment that lets you experiment without limits. Your original images are never altered, and it’s easy to reverse your steps or save multiple versions of any photo.

Advanced black-and-white conversion — Gain powerful control over the tonal qualities that make or break black-and-white images. Precisely mix information from eight color channels when you convert to grayscale.

One-click adjustments to multiple images — Save time when processing many images. Apply the same Develop settings — exposure or contrast, for example — to all the photographs in a group at once using presets or syncing.

I've been using Adobe products for a long while, especially Photoshop and Lightroom, and believe them to be the best available. But since Adobe's recent move to their Creative Cloud requiring continuous monthly payments to access most of their products I wonder how long 'Lightroom' will remain a stand alone program.

For the cost, Lightroom can't be beat for photo enhancing and also for organizing and sharing, too. And If accompanied with "Nik", "onOne", or other plugins Lightroom becomes even better. This iteration of 'Lightroom', from LR4 to LR5, provides modest improvements almost across the board and I especially like the 'advanced healing brush' and the 'upright' feature for straightening, both of which save time in my workflow.

I find Adobe products expensive and made even more so as a result of "Creative Cloud", but Lightroom is an exception that I found reasonably priced as an upgrade, discounted through NAPP, so I didn't hesitate purchasing and downloading from the Adobe site which was quick and uneventful. There are lower cost and even free alternatives but Adobe is 'just that much better'.

I recently purchased a Canon Powershot SX50 HS camera, and now have the ability to shoot images in RAW mode. I could have used the RAW processing software that came with the camera, but I wanted something more powerful, so I opted for Lightroom after reading many reviews.

First off, I really like the library system that Lightroom uses, as it makes it easy for me to quickly go through my photos and remove the ones that I'm not happy with. I take on average 400+ pictures every time I'm out with my camera, so I needed something that would allow me to quickly go through them and remove the lousy pictures and bring the number of pictures needing processing down to only the best of the shots I've taken.

After going through and removing the unwanted pictures, Lightroom gives me the ability to fine tune the image to my liking before exporting them to jpg files. The slider approach works well, and I'm surprised at how easy this is to use, especially considering it's an Adobe product, which typically seem to require a degree in their software in order to get anything substantial accomplished. I find that shooting in RAW and using Lightroom allows me to extract more detail out of my shots, giving me better overall results than if I was just shooting in jpg and allowing the camera to do the post-processing.

One of the best features of Lightroom (in my opinion) is the "Heal" brush. This allows you to easily remove objects from your picture with minimal effort. You simply click on the area you want to remove, and a circle appears elsewhere on the photo. You can then drag that circle around to find the area that best matches the area you're trying to remove in order to get a seamless removal of an unwanted object.

I'm new to Lightroom and it takes a little getting used to when coming from Photoshop. It's a frustrating learning period as lightroom does things a little differently but have come to find it an invaluable tool for editing. I also love that it never changes the original file (which I hated at first) and you "export" the altered images and original is never changed. Great product!

I have Photoshop CS5, ACDsee Pro and Corel Painshop X5 and Lightroom 5 in now my choice for editing and organizing my photos. Plugins integrate much better, the "Develop" module is very sophisticated but intuitive and easy to use and Collections are easy to establish. Couldn't ask for a better product!!!!!

Haven't had a chance to use it for every photo need yet. But so far so good. This was my "move up" from Elements. For the price seems to be more what I want and will save me money in the long run since you have to re-purchase Elements every year for full price (they don't offer an Elements upgrade after first purchase.) But w/ Lightroom, which didn't cost too much more than Elements, I can now buy the upgrades when they come out cheaper than re-buying Elements. And why does that matter? After a new version of Elements comes out they no longer support the old version. Makes a difference if you buy a new model of camera down the road or get into using your software for more options and needs.

Forget photoshop or other software to edit your photos. All you need is this software, it has everything you need. It's easy to use and if you need tutorials youtube it. The one thing is you need a new pc because it requires a lot to use it right with no lagging.

The software is outstanding, especially the enhanced healing brush. It's just it's not as intuitive as one would hope (Export and Import instead of Open and Save As) ... things like that. I need a lot more training, but so far it's powerful and totally worth the money.

For most photographers, Lightroom 5 is all you really need. Especially with the new and improved healing tools/brushes that once required you to go over to Photoshop. I use LR5 in about 95% of my workflow. I am very pleased with this product and cannot recommend it enough to other photogs.
