This book is a careful study of the life of Adoniram Judson. I would recommend this book to anyone who is tired of hagiography, and looking for a realistic history of the early Baptist missions movement in America. I would also recommend this book to missionaries already on the field, for inspiration and encouragement, and to those considering a missionary career.

Adoniram Judson is a great read. It challenges the reader to reconsider their personal commitment to missions - both foreign and home. It reveals the heart of Christian missions in the lives of two men: Adoniram Judson and William Carey. I highly recommend this book and challenge those who have never read a book on missions to begin with this one

While not the typical linear biography, this collection of accounts describes the life and ministry of Adoniram Judson with intimate detail. The treatments help the reader to identify with Judson in that the authors have included both valiant and unflattering aspects of his personality. They inspire the reader through Judson’s victories, but offer a window into his pains and even near destruction in his darkest hour. This presentation of the life of Adoniram Judson humbles the reader and causes him to examine his own motivations and calling. Though there are some deeper theological ideas covered in the background information, the book is easy to read, and would be an inspiring and educational undertaking, whether one is a student of theology or an interested layperson.

I read this book at the strong recommendation of Ravi Zacharias in one of his podcasts. I am so glad I did. Adoniram Judson was an amazing, amazing Christian. What an example of faith similar to that written of in Hebrews 11.

I purchased this book on Adorinam Judson initially thinking it was a typical biography. I must admit I was disappointed to find it was a well-ordered collection of essays by various authors. As a result, the book is unevenly written, sometimes repetitive, and in a few instances contradictory. That being said, I appreciated the breadth of information and insight included in the volume, and while I think it could have used a touch more editorial work to even out some of the repetition and contradictions, the general structure from the ethos leading to Judson's missionary call, through his biography, into an examination of his missiology and theology with some final reflections was actually quite helpful.
So while it was not exactly what I was hoping for, I found it insightful and encouraging and hope that it does help raise up laborers for the harvest.

One of the most inspiring biographies on a missionary that I have ever encountered. The author states his goal clearly at the begging of the book, which is to motivated people to reach UPG's and he achieved that goal with this reader.

Overall a worthwhile read although some chapters are stronger than others. In particular, the chapter on Hudson's wives was immensely encouraging and, alone, worth getting the book.
