This second album is solid and professional. It feels like the third or fourth album by a time-tested band—tight playing, sensible arrangements. Though not exactly predictable, Adore Life lacks the impression of recklessness that powered Savages first album—the sense that the band could fly apart with passion. Still, as a sophomore effort, it is respectable and will no doubt carry a very impressive band forward. My advice is to get the first album and hear the potential, then you can admire the band's progress with some measured perspective.

Delivers on the promise of their debut, then surpasses it. Bass-driven and angular, the album has a dark undercurrent that threads through each song, yet the lyrics reflect thoughtful ruminations of love. Name your post-punk luminary and this release has echoes of them, but Savages don't sound like any one of their predecessors. (For my money, though, this is "Heaven Up Here" brilliant.) Highly recommended.

I like all kinds of music, and after hearing an interview on SoundOpinions I was ready to get this album just based on the quality of the interview.
When I got the album, I got more excited than I've been about a new record from a band I didn't know than I have in many years. I love this album, the writing is excellent, the musicianship is phenomenal, and the production first rate. They communicate emotion and power through each member's unique voice; the vocals are particularly powerful, but I find the bass, guitar, and even drums equally profound and thoughtful.
Here's the really strange thing, the band I compare them to most closely is Depeche Mode. I don't do this because their songs are similar, or because their instrumentation is the same. Certainly the vocals on Adore Life are unique unto themselves -- I compare them because I once read an interview in which the DM boys stated that they are a 'sound band' more than a keyboard band. "Sound Band." Yes, Savages are a "Sound Band" and if I could, I would love to crawl up in their sound and live there -- which is what I do when I put on good headphones and listen end to end, or get in the car and just sit and listen end to end on a good car audio deck. I'd do the same at home, but the volume levels would garner an eviction, so it's not really an option:)
I'm delighted to have run across this band, both of the albums are excellent, and were engineered and produced at the very highest level. I look forward to listening to them in the future.

I loved their first album so it was never a question for me if I was gong to get their new one. I would have to say this one is a little bit more restrained than the first one. Where Silence Yourself would go crazy Adore Life tends to pace it and have more self control. The song writing is still miles ahead of any mainstream crap on the radio. There is a real sense of being alive, vital and on the edge in their music and that to me is their big appeal. If you want pleasant tunes that don't challenge or threaten you then go listen to Coldplay, if you want music that is alive and honest then Savages are for you.
For me the standout track has to be "The Answer" possibly the best punk/post-punk song written in the last twenty years.

Excellent sophomore release from this post punk inspired band. If you like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, and Bauhaus, this is very much in a similar vein. Strong songwriting and just enough modernity help the band avoid sounding like a cheap knock off.

Strong post punk and probably a slightly better album than their first outing. A critics' darling.
Worth hearing.

How is it that this band hasn't gained more widespread appeal? Simply put, they are awesome and this music needs to be experienced. So, so very good.

I don't consider myself a punk fan but I like Savages. They put on a pretty intense show. They are clearly a talented group of performers. It's a refreshing experience.

Where is the packaging?

Considering the album arrived with nothing but a label stuck to the shrink wrap cover, I'm really surprised it wasn't damaged or (considering it was left leaning against my front door) it wasn't nicked by someone. Luckily I live in a fairly honest town where most of the residents think of John Wayne movies when savages are mentioned.
Anyway the album itself is fine and dandy and a testament to the continuing influence of articulate and inventive rock music.

Savages rock and haunt.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 18, 2018
The Savages are a female poweful, driving rock line up. The lyrics are delivered with an urgency and at times etherial edge delivering a distinct take on love, life and the contradictions of being in the post-truth era. A serious and challenging contribution to a genre - The Strypes, Drenge and other young gun male line ups' could learn a thing or two.

Seriously Savages are an excellent band of enthusiastic and gifted musicians . Listen to how they interplay and drive the songs forward . Vocalist is empassioned and in sync with the music around her . Bands of this caliber only got this good by harmony and hard work . Superb wonderful music .

Record of the year.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 24, 2016
Record of the year. Sublime. Four ladies take Joy Division-esque post-punk and deliver an album about deep, dark, honest human emotion - love. This is a record growled from the heart, bled from the pangs of desire. It's as loud, chaotic and abrupt as it needs to be, and catchy as hell. See them live if you can.
