"Carolyn Reilly combines romance with suspense and intrigue to create a plot that is not only enticing, but brilliant. Hands down one of the best books of this genre I've read this year, and definitely in my all-genre top ten. I highly recommend this book. It really is the whole package." -- K.J.Simmill, Readers' Favorite Reviewer
"Not only is the relationship between Kendra and Jake heart-wrenching, it's also powerful and passionate. The attraction that the two characters share for one another is something out of my wildest daydreams, and I couldn't wait to read more! A wholly creative take on society, Reilly's world is both interesting and frighteningly possible. A must read for anyone who loves romances with a dystopian twist!"--Amazon review from Kim Doane
"This sci-fi romance had a great pace, was action-packed and would make a great movie. Especially because it had it all: advanced technology, crazy scientists, lots of action and suspense as well as hot and heavy but no overwhelming romance." --Liv's World of Books
"All of the characters in this book are equally as fascinating and captivating in their own way. " --Jezabell Girl & Friends Book Reviews
"Reilly's book, Adrenaline Secrets, was one of the best romance novels I've ever read! Adrenaline Secrets was definitely a romance novel, but the action between all the 'action' - wink wink - made it not just bearable but a book that I couldn't put down!" -- Goodreads review from Molly
"The characters and story line are so well-written you will be drawn in and await each twist with baited breath! I will be actively seeking more books by this author."--Amazon review from gossni

"Although Jake is not a natural born, he shows a vulnerability that melts my heart. I'm ready for more."--Amazon Review from lisagk
"I received this book as an ARC and I'm so glad I did as I might not have come across this amazing read otherwise! Jake and Kendra were perfect in their flaws and strengths. The portrayal of military personnel and the way they interact was spot on! I can not wait to see what else she (Carolyn Reilly) writes. I hope this author has more incredible stories to tell!"--Amazon review from Erin
"This book was ridiculously excellent. From the superior writing to the character details and plot twists, I was utterly hooked. Could not put it down."--Amazon Review from Bella
"Sizzling! I actually really really liked this book. It was different and original with enough danger and lust thrown in to make it sizzling. I loved seeing Kendra turn Jake into the man that he never thought he could be. There is a nice surprise in the book as well that made me happy." --Amazon review from R.Webb312
About the Author
Carolyn Reilly has been working for the German Federal Foreign Office (aka Department of State) for more than 20 years. A good part of that time she was assigned to German Embassies in civil war Lagos/ Nigeria and Khartoum/ Sudan, with the German Consulate General in New York and with German Embassies in Central Asian countries Kirgizstan and Kazakhstan. She still works part-time for the Foreign Office, but has meanwhile exchanged those restless and not exactly hazard-free postings abroad with a quieter life in the Bavarian countryside. When she isn’t reading or writing, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her two Icelandic horses. She advocates animal welfare and a percentage of the proceeds of her books goes to Farmed Animal Sanctuary Hof Butenland in Northern Germany.

What I enjoyed about this book is its multi-layered plot; one minute the reader is engrossed in Reed’s personal familial odyssey, the next, the reader is drawn into the struggle between “naturals” and “Genetic Invitros”. Despite being a little complex and packed with detail, the book keeps a great pace and is jammed-pack with action. Even though there are a multitude of characters and plot lines, the author does a great job of outlining everything clearly while never botching the book’s overall likeability. The author’s experience in the State Department lends the book’s espionage aspect an air of authenticity. And despite the sci-fi nature of the subject matter, the author manages to write in such a way that the plot seems entirely realistic.
For those who are hesitant about the romance aspect of the book, the great news is that even though the reader can immediately see the chemistry between Reed and Hanson, theirs is not a saccharine love story. The story doesn’t devolve into a sappy tale but rather maintains its integrity as a page-turning thriller. I highly recommend this read for anyone looking for an adrenaline-inducing story!
Given the subject matter, I wasn't really sure what to expect out of this novel, but I was pleasantly surprised. The story is set in a futuristic world with 2 types of people roaming the world - "naturals" and "GV's." GVs are these laboratory created people that have been genetically altered to be soldiers with excess adrenaline and physical strength and a lack of emotions. This book is a story about the treacherous attraction between a GV and a natural.
I have picked up my fair share of romance novels and usually have to put them down because I can't stand the repetitive, over the top attention to the main characters' syrupy sweet attraction. Adrenaline Secrets was definitely a romance novel, but the action between all the 'action' - wink wink - made it not just bearable but a book that I couldn't put down! Sure, you see what's coming between Kendra and Jake the moment they're introduced, and the Romeo and Juliet love story has been done, but their chemistry sizzles, leading us into perilous jungle expeditions, to-the-death fights with rogues, and head on collisions with authorities. It isn't an apocolytic story, but rather a dystopian society, one that isn't that much of a stretch to believe from what modern day science is. Between the thrilling action there is a narrative about accepting one another for what they are, which was another point this book had over traditional romance novels. It's a short read, definitely worth your time and I'm looking forward to picking up the 2nd book in the series!
Kendra Reed is sent to work undercover at GovCorp to unveil some of the company’s dark secrets. She is determined to uncover proof that she needs to prove that the company was responsible for the car crash that killed her parents and brother a few years ago. When the Committee assigns Kendra to a mission in the depths of Africa to uncover the truth behind one of the Committee’s planes and its cargo aboard, the story intensifies. Soon, we are introduced to Jake, who is genetically engineered to kill, despite his sweet and vulnerable side. When mutual feelings of respect eventually evolve into romantic infatuation, they become desperate to keep each other safe from danger. What both of these characters don’t know at first is that their pasts may just be intertwined after all.
The characters are complex and well-developed. It’s easy for the reader to connect to them, and despite being part of a science-fiction story line, these characters display emotions that are truly real and raw. It’s hard to believe this is the author’s debut novel, because she’s nailed the plot, the characters, and action flawlessly.
This book is complicated but in a good way. There are a lot of different things going on but at the same time, it's easy to follow because the author does a great job of explaining everything. It moves at a good pace and it's got a lot of action. It's not one of those books that take forever to get into the real story either. You're thrown into the action right from the beginning.
I don't want to say too much more about it because I would hate to spoil it for anyone. But I highly recommend this book. If you don't normally read sci/fi and you've been wanting to branch out, this is a great book to start with.
