For starters Adrien is not a character I wanted to root for. He was irritating and naive and foolish...much to reminiscent of the TSTL female MCs we find in romance suspense books. In fact, I think that’s one thing that bothers me about this series...it is too easily gender switchable..make it a female Adrian and not much changes in the story line. That irritates me in a m/m romance.
Jake is a jerk...not a good reaction to your other MC and the romantic interest of your MC. His self-loathing is getting old now and I despise his throwing around the f-word (homophobic not rhymes with buck!) I think the author has dug this hole too deep and it will be an unbelievable job to get out of it, especially with the added complication of pending marriage and child.
I’m not sure I’ll read further in the series. I would dismiss it entirely were it not for the plethora of good reviews, many of which comment on re-evaluating these earlier books after reading the later ones. We’ll see.
I was a little surprised by some of the racist and bigoted remarks in the book. I think you can show a sheriff is an idiot without using some of the phrases found in the story.
The books read like a cozy but with sex. Adrien seems slightly bumbling but with good instincts. He discovers dead bodies the way other people spot loose change in parking lots.
Highly recommended. I love a good mystery and I love the cozy feel with the main character being a book store owner with a focus on mystery selections.
This was a mixed bag for me. I thought the second book by far the best of the the three. The first one and third one had varying problems but I liked the series overall and it has me interested enough to keep reading.

Well written and believable characters who happen to be gay.
Thoughroughly enjoyed the first 3 books in the series.
