Patty's book is an ongoing therapy session for anyone who grew up in an alcoholic family and dares look at how it has effected them. You can go over it again years later and see your progress or what you still need to work on. I encourage any adult child to get it.

No longer in print but a definite addition to anyone who is looking to work through old family issues. The workbook definitely started me on the road to recovery 22 years ago. My own works (see my Getting Past Your Breakup book here on Amazon) are partially based on Ms. McConnell's exercises. It's a good book. If you grew up in a dysfunctional family, try to get your hands on it.

if you are an ACOA and want to make concrete changes and do the "grief" work required for a fundamental mind-shift, this is a great start. but be prepared, it is intense and soul-searching and painful. and it takes time to do properly. I would say only buy it if you are ready to devote the time to it.
