This book forms a connection between both the worlds of Grasshopper® and 3D printing, explaining how to transform a design into a series of curves and paths for a 3D printer to use. It teaches how to write and create G-code directly within Grasshopper®, without the use of scripts or plug-ins, in easy format for existing Grasshopper® users to understand. Big experience using the software is not required, but skilled users will be able to take full advantage of the content. The book focused mainly on clay 3D printing, but the same logic can be applied to thermo-filament 3D printing (FDM) as well. The methods taught open up a wide range of new possibilities when 3D printing, like non-planar 3D printing or non-conventional paths for the 3D printer.

Good reference book
4 out of 5 stars
Good reference book
While the content is good. The book itself is not well designed and the printing is not good quality. On top of that, mine was delivered with some damage. It is not a beginner’s book you need some previous knowledge on rhino 3d / grasshopper and 3D printing for this to become of any value. I do recommend the book for its content, this is an industry that’s relatively young and still being pioneered.

Book does what it needs to do. But you definitely need plenty of prior knowledge of softwares to understand book. Not beginner friendly but you can find plenty of YouTube and other books for learning basics.

Pleasant to read, good tone and well communicated, plenty of illustrations and good formatting! Text is large and renderings larger, grasshopper definitions are clear, logical and well organized.

Now to build myself a clay 3D printer....

The book did not meet my expectations. Its more focus on teaching really basic concepts about 3d printing and grasshopper. And I already knew all that. Also focuses on clay printing and delta machines for 3d printing. When I got to the point the the reading was really interesting to me and things were new to me the book finished.

I do not know if would have survived my master program if not for the help of this book. This book is produced in a great, easy to understand format. It is exactly what I was looking to learn, gcode through grasshopper. I recommended to all of my collegues and classmates who ended up buying their own copy

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Advanced 3D printing

The book goes into detail on how to construct all the basic components you would need to create a custom g-code. This is a good basis to begin and from which to make even more complex g-code. Definitely would recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for filament printing (only)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 22, 2024
    Format: PaperbackVerified Purchase
Main Title is a bit too wide-sweeping, subtitle is more like it. Perfect manual for printing in clay or any other wide-nozzle filament-based printing, not so useful for other 3D printing approaches.
