Advancing Conversations is a line of interview books documenting conversations with artists, authors, philosophers, economists, scientists, and activists whose works are aimed at the future and at progress. The biogerontologist Aubrey de Grey, as the world's pre-eminent longevity advocate, is nothing if not future oriented. De Grey is the founder of the SENS Research Foundation, an organization developing medical interventions to repair the damage the body does to itself over time. Stated more directly, Aubrey de Grey and his organization aim to defeat aging. In 2005 a panel of scientists and doctors from MIT, Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Microsoft, and the Venter Institute participated in a contest to judge whether de Grey's "Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence" were worthy of debate and verification or whether these ideas were wrong on their face. The panel found that de Grey's proposals for intervening in the aging process, while speculative, often "ran parallel to existing research" and were not "demonstrably wrong."

Anyone who has heard of Dr Aubrey de Grey and the SENS Foundation - this is definitely the book for you. No, scrap that, this is the book for anyone who is interested in living in a healthy condition indefinitely in the coming decades.
This book is the conversation between Aubrey de Grey and author Douglas Lain.
Very interesting to transhumanists like me in particular although I know that term is not one Dr de Grey is overly keen on.
In his view his work is not to keep people alive indefinitely in unhealthy conditions but t9 have typical 80 year olds with the mental and physical astributes of a 60 year old. And if you're 60 and choose to have these therapies? They take you back further to being 35-40. Each time knocking more biological years from your age. There is probably limitations I. E unlikely one could ever be "younger" than 25 simply because this is the age where your body is said to have reached its official devolopment.
Sound too sci-Fi for you? If you give this book a chance you will understand more to SENS Foundations goal and why it is perfectly reasonable to assume we will make escape velocity within 25 to 30 years .
There are questions in here to which de Grey gives clear answers so as not to confuse the ordinary folks like us who are often baffled by medical science.
Prepare yourself for a post-aging future. Myself I cannot wait.

underwhelming. If you're looking to learn about Aubrey's work, I would recommend the book he actually did write: Ending Aging. This one is a very short and very informal interview which talks more about him as a person than his ideas. It is entirely non-technical and only somewhat informative.

I ordered this booklet to gain some insight into the ideas and concerns of Aubrey De Grey, and to supplement my research into longevity, however I was disappointed. The author/publisher/interviewer failed in providing anything relevant with this document. At times his questions rambled and at other times his questions were inane to the point of idiocy. He seemed to be quite focused on the documentaries produced about De Grey in an attempt to try and market to the uneducated, pop-cultured obsessed masses and by doing this he miscalculated his target audience. My advice, put your research time and money elsewhere.
