The meaning/concept has NOT been compromised.
For example...it took me several hours to figure out how to explain "according" to my 5 year old daughter (1 Cor. 15:3b - "that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures.") Granted, a dictionary would have solved this, but I was stubborn and had to figure it out on my own.
Turns out, the NIrV's wording was exactly what I came up with: 1 Cor. 15:3b - "Christ died for our sins, just as Scripture said he would."
My daughter loves being able to read the bible on her own and not having to struggle with the 'grown up words' which can be changed for easier wording.
This is not the case through-out (some words simply can not be substituted)....but it puts her at a good reading point at 5 years old!
As for the rest of it, I believe most of the "helps" by Lawrence Richards are age appropriate and well done. It makes a nice Bible for young readers.
The Bible itself is written in the New International Reader's Version (NIrV), which is similar to the New International Version (NIV), just a little easier to read. The features of the Adventure Bible for Early Readers are similar to the Adventure Bible, but written with younger readers in mind. For example, the memory verses embedded in the text are the same verses, but written in their respective version, and the "Live It" and "Life in Bible Times" snippets have the same general theme, but are written with words that younger kids would understand. The Adventure Bible for Early Readers also features full color features, color maps, and engaging illustrations.
Although Stinker, who is not quite 6 years old, isn't independently reading the Bible on her own yet, she likes to look through it and read a sentence here and there. The full color really keeps her interest. If you already have an Adventure Bible for older children, you will probably see a lot of repetition, and it probably isn't worth purchasing The Adventure Bible for Early Readers.Read more ›

Wonderful book overall for my little one, just wish it would've lasted longer.
