This board was a little more expensive than other options, but I feel like it’s worth it. There is too much china junk on amazon these days. The backpack is very well made, and the carbon fiber paddle is awesome. The description says this board is made from the best material out there, and I from what I have seen with others i bought, it's true. It feels super tough. I think the 11’ size is perfect for me. It’s not too big for solo outings, but I can also fit my son on it with without any problems. I really can’t wait to use this board to fish from.
If there is one negative thing about it - I wish there were more colors to pick from. Maybe an orange or green, but the yellow is at least visible on the lake. Also the box was crushed when it came, but I think that is amazon ultimately.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with it and thought it was worthwhile to write a lengthy review considering the cost.
The paddle, pump, bag and board all came packaged very well. The first time I inflated the board I couldn’t believe it - it was even better looking in person. This is one of the coolest design’s I’ve seen on a paddle board.
This is an 11’ touring paddle board with a pointed nose, so I expected it to handle different than the all-arounder I had. Honestly, I didn’t notice much difference. I expected it to be a little slower, but it cut through the water with ease with the pointed nose. I’m really not sure which one is faster, but I’m not looking for a race board so I don’t care much either. The board is super stable. I’m over 200 lbs and I feel like the board would be stable enough even with a second person or a dog.
The dual bungee system is great. I’ll often load a ice chest on the back and have a dry bag and shoes up front. The soft traction pad is great and super comfortable. The board also has a ton of d-rings for external mounts and for a kayak seat. I contacted the company and they said their kayak seat kits will be available this summer.
The paddle is also an improvement. It’s got a carbon fiber shaft, and a black blade. It’s very light and stiff.
As before, the GILI bag and pump are top notch.
My only complaint is that I get a little tired after pumping up two of these. I either have to get my girlfriend to pump her own, or get an electric pump! Still way better that storing a hard board which won’t fit in my BMW! I’m love this board and can’t wait to use it over and over again this summer.
I was looking for something similar with specific features. Selling points for me are weight, dual bungees, extras d-rings and grab handles back and front. This board has it all!
I got the board this week, shipped super fast, well packed. Everything fits in the pack back. The attachment of the pump to inflate the board is not so good, but works well.
I only have used it once at the lake and I really like so far, super stable, the carbon fiber paddle is nice, feels good and a portion of $ you pay for the board goes directly to saving Coral Reefs. How can it get better then this ?
Given the "nowhere to put it" phenomenon, I still wasn't REALLY in the market. THEN I come across inflatables. I was skeptical at first because in our consumer world we think of inflatables as tubes or other water flotation devices made of a thin layer of plastic that are easily punctured. Not to go off on a tangent, but that couldn't be farther from the situation with inflatables (at least the GILI). This thing is HEAVY duty.
To set the table, let's not compare apples to oranges. Inflatable boards and hard boards are a little bit different. Do not try to DIRECTLY compare one to the other. They are different, but that is not a good or a bad thing. They both perform and now I know from experience.
The Gili package comes in a box about 18 x 36 ish. I didn't measure but that's what the range is in my head. Everything arrives inside the bag (that comes with cushioned backpack straps - major advantage). So I roll it out in my place and blow it up. This pvc that this thing is made out of is very, very durable. I inflated it up to 15 PSI and stood on it. Pretty insane how little give there is.
I was very, very satisfied with the way it performed. The price is too good for a product of this quality. I've read a lot of mixed reviews on other boards. There's a guy online that reviews them professionally, and even he had mentioned how this product is made in a quality factory and is made with quality materials. I like GILI's warranty and after reading how the brand was started, it was a no brainer.
OH - and the board is pretty fast when it comes down to it. Pretty good tracking also. I can literally take this to any river, lake, pond, or any body of water in general without having a giant fixture on the top of my car or having a hard board hang out the window. Once it's done, I rinse it down, put it away, and bye.
