We DO meet the criteria behind the design of THESE pots (except for the clever utensiles, which we don't use.)
1) We don't want aluminum leaching into our food
2) We only want non-stick coating where it's worth babying the pan, as we don't want non-stick in our food either
3) We don't want to have to choose between large and small cooking capability EXCEPT as a trip-by-trip option
4) We want to be able to clean with MINIMAL greywater to deal with at very rustic camp areas
5) We want covers for EVERY pot (not one for all)
6) We want pots that pack into minimal space
7a) We want good use of the packing space within our pots
7b) We do not want to have to pack pot contents somewhere else while we use the pots.
8) We need to be able to tote these on bicycle or in a car, but not hiking far.
We have now used these for some fairly rustic camping (bike access only, bring drinking water in with you) as well as car camping and day trips (where we wanted soup for lunch.) The pots, bowls, bowl covers, and cutting boards succeded on all counts. We had never realized how much visiting flies bugged us (pun intended) until we had bowl covers to foil the flies.
For someone who does NOT have better ladle and spatula options, the kit content is very clever. We just happen to have better options.
We have NOT, however, found a better option for us than this pan set!
But once i dump the extra weight it is a good start on either a camping or hiking set. For hiking bring one pot one or two bowls and one lid. find a lightweight cutting board and utensils that will work for you. For camping ditch the cutting board and the spatula/ladle and add as needed. I am getting a third larger pot, a coffee pot, nice set of kitchen tools, and a good frying pan.
I does all stack together nicely, and overall I like it.
