About the Author

Kerry Altiero is the chef and owner of Cafe Miranda, an edgy yet intimate multi-cuisine restaurant in Rockland, Maine. Kerry and the restaurant have been awarded numerous honors, including Lobster Chef of the Year and Best Farm to Table Restaurant. Kerry lives in Owls Head, Maine.

Katherine Gaudet works at the University of New Hampshire and is a freelance writer and editor. She lives with her husband and daughter in Saco, Maine.

Foreword by Melissa Kelly, the chef/owner of Primo restaurant and two-time winner of the James Beard Best Chef award.

This cookbook has recipes after my own heart -- unusual, local ingredients, a lot of seafood, great tastes and flavors, unusual fresh comginations and photos make the food look pretty appetizing. However it does have some negatives. The first is that it uses a lot of heavy cream in some recipes. Virtually anything in the books could be made -- without any loss of flavor -- in a much trimmer version. Another quibble is that virtually every recipe is for one or at the most two people. This is great for restaurant cooking or for a single person (if you have all the ingredients) but inconvenient when you are cooking for a family or supper party. Yes, it is relatively easy to scale up (if you have some skills, experience and confidence) however it does require some trial and error on seasoning, and the like. If you are looking for a sort of balanced menu of soups, sides, salads, entrees, desserts, etc. find another cookbook because this is more a favorite selection of some of those categories and most of the selections are really "rich." I've really enjoyed reading it and can recommend it to a good (and single) cook who enjoys unusual foods but will stick to my own brand of adventurous comfort food.

I've been to Kerry Altiero's restaurant many times, it's may favorite in Maine! I have had this book for about a month now and this things I've made are so tasty and so similar to what I'm served at Cafe Miranda. If you want a great cookbook with unique dishes and great twists on some classics this is the book for you! If you can't cook and want to try it'll work for that too!
