Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (SeaWolf Press Illustrated Classic): First Edition Cover [Print Replica] Kindle Edition
SeaWolf Press is proud to offer another book in its Mark Twain 100th Anniversary Collection. Each book in the collection contains the text, illustrations, and cover from the first edition (but it is not a photocopy.) Use Amazon's Lookinside feature to compare this edition with others, and make sure you don't buy a large 8 x 11 inch edition. You'll be impressed by the differences. Our version has:
- All 174 original illustrations.
- Text that has been proofread to avoid errors common in other versions.
- A beautiful cover that replicates the first edition cover.
- The complete text in an easy-to-read font similar to the original.
Mark Twain created the memorable characters Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn drawing from the experiences of boys he grew up with in Missouri. Set by the Mississippi River in the 1840’s, this tale is a follow-up to his original book, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Huckleberry takes off on a raft down the Mississippi with Jim, a slave seeking his freedom. They run into two con artists, the Duke and the King, as they drift southward, and Huck reunites with Tom Sawyer near the end of the book. The book exposes attitudes prevalent at the times, especially racism, and includes coarse language.

(I have gotten pretty good at substituting words while reading aloud. We talked about the word used in the book not being a nice word and talked about the historical context on the story, but I did substitute words while reading it aloud.)
I read the Seawolf Press edition, which has the original illustrations. The illustrations are so neat and the edition is wonderfully put together. I can't recommend these editions highly enough. I love facsimile editions and Seawolf Press puts out some of the best.
The Sea Wolf Press edition is fabulous! The font is easy to read and there is room to make annotations if you like to do that. The illustrations are amusing (garter snakes with buttons tied to their tails!) and they add to the story.
Twain is a masterful story teller. This book has so many layers. You could read it several times and still find something new, interesting, or thought provoking. Being from the Mississippi River side of Missouri, the descriptions are spot on, especially the storm on the island. I've seen those storms when the world turns all blue-black... And shouldn't we all live like Huck - doing the right thing even if society says it's wrong and treating others like equals, or even friends? What a world that would be!
