About the Author
Titus Coan 1801-1882 Titus Coan was a Christian missionary and explorer from New England. He was associated with the revivals going on in the United States of America during the early 1800's. After a six month trip to what is now Argentina where he lived with a savage tribe for 3 months, he accepted the calling to go to the Hawaiian Islands as a missionary. He remained there the rest of his life. Not long after he arrived in the Islands he was used mightily by God during what was known as the "Great Awakening" of the native population to Christianity. During the "Great Awakening" he became the pastor of what is believed to be the largest church gathering in the world at that time. (7000+) He also had a facination for the live volcanos on Hawaii island and wrote many reports in scientific journals on the subject.
