The only complaint I have is that there should have been a definite break between what I would call parts I and II of the book. When you're reading a chapter and the next chapter goes on a few months ahead with no warning, you're left a little confused until you manage to piece the pieces together. Having said that, it didn't detract from what is in my opinion a great story and I suspect that many readers who are exploring the world of D/s after Fifty Shades of Grey will find it a very enjoyable and sexy read.
Roll on Book Two, Ms Lords!
I must confess that I have a bit of a fantasy involving being someone’s baby girl. There is just something so appealing about allowing someone else who loves and cares for you to make all the decisions and allow you to relax. So when I was offered the opportunity to read The Adventures of Sir and Babygirl by Kayla Lords, I jumped at the chance. I am so happy that I did because this book was just a pure delight.
Because of the subject matter, you might believe that The Adventures of Sir and Babygirl is just another erotic book. Instead, the book is really about the growing relationship between Katie and Jonathan. Ms. Lords did a wonderful job of showcasing the difficulties people have in establishing a new relationship. Both Katie and Jonathan were divorced with children. As a result of their past relationships, they had insecurities and neuroses about starting over. I found myself smiling while reading because I could truly appreciate how difficult it is to juggle parenthood, a career and new relationship.
One of the fascinating aspects of the novella was that the point of view switched back and forth between Katie and Jonathan. I loved watching their developing relationship from both aspects. These two different viewpoints allowed Ms. Lords to fully flesh out both characters making them real to me.
It is only when a solid relationship has been established that the two embark on a DD/bg relationship. The sex between the two was steamy and delicious. Ms. Lords was able to beautifully portray why someone would seek out this type of dynamic.
My only complaint – it was too short. At only 59 pages, I wanted to keep reading. I so enjoyed meeting Katie and Jonathan and can only hope that this is the beginning of a new series.
Although we don't know quite as much about Johnathan, we do learn he's a divorced graphic artist who works from home and raising his twin boys all while trying to help out his sister. He seems to be innately dominant but also has experience within the lifestyle.
This reminds me a bit of one of my all-time favorites, the Brie series by Red Phoenix. Upon discovering this will also become a series, this first installment makes so much more sense. The first half of the story is mostly introducing us to the characters; their behaviors, patterns, and personalities. The second half is just snippets into their growing relationship. Some time passes between their first meeting and their initial sexual engagement although it's unclear how much, regardless it draws the illusion this will be a long term connection.
While the second part of this initial outing was a tad disjointed from the flow of the first half, I still enjoyed this as a novella. It gives you enough but leaves you wanting more. The author has a nice technical writing style that switches seamlessly to a more conversational form especially within the dialogue between the two characters.
There is obviously a BDSM theme and more directly a Daddy/babygirl type relationship. While generally familiar with this, it was interesting to read more specifically about some of the dynamics in that type of bond.Read more ›

She remembers she has the email she needs to reply to but just puts it off to the side and wait until later on.
